Has anyone had much success with comskip in the uk. I am trying the latest version 0.78_2 and haven't had much success. I have tried to fine tune the comskip.ini file on older versions in the past and haven't had very good results. Has anyone else managed to get good/reasonable results? What about other parts of the world?

Damn - from the title, I thought you'd got it running properly

No, I've not had much, if any success with it in the UK. I was going to have another go during the holidays.

I could never get the results accurate enough (probably something I did/didn't do in configuring it). I did get usable results amost straight away with ShowAnalyzer

Anyone that wants to spend some (little) time in improving the results of comskip can get my support. No deep understanding of comskip is required.
Basically, I will do the tuning for you.

Please follow this procedure

For encouragement, Erik helped me with tweaking the ini file for NZ TV and I am very pleased with the results (thanks, Erik). I am sure he can do the same for you. It will be worth persevering.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Lindsay and Erik. You need to work through it with Erik to get it tweak right. You may find you need different tweaks for different channels, but definitely worth the effort.

I get pretty good results with Comskip here in NZ.

OK - You've convinced me.

One of my worries was the huge number of channels and possible/probable differences in comskip configurations for them. I'll concentrate on one program on one channel and follow Eriks procedure.

thanks for the positive thoughts.

I receive feedback from people requiring between 1 and 3 comskip configurations for all their channels.
Biggest delta is with/without logo or not having black frames.
Channels that broadcast shows with a lot of dark scenes with a lot of silence without logo during the show only are in general a problem.
The default ini file should be OK for most of the regular channels with logo during show only.
Do NOT test on recordings shorter then say 30 minutes. Comskip has global heuristics that are tuned for a full recording and fail completely on 10 minute recordings.

I mentioned on another thread a short while ago that in the uk, they appear to be merging ads and shows, almost as if they were trying to prevent this kind of detection on purpose. I have several freeview shows where there is no black frame with silence (at the correct point).

Erik did say that he enjoyed a challange and so I do need to get around to generating some test csv's.

On analogue channels, there are no logo's.
On some dvb channels, the channel logo is there 100% of the time. I am not aware of any channels where there is a logo that only shown during the show.

Certainly on the Sky satellite channels I've checked, the logo is there all the time, no aspect ratio change - possibly an increase in audio compression.
So far it's not been spotting the commercials. More tweakery when I read (and understand?!) the tuning notes.
