Does anyone know of a tool which will analyse recordings to check the AV timestamps are OK? It must be able to handle mpeg2 AND dvr-ms files.

I've googled but haven't found anything yet.

Cheers,
Brian

Just a quick follow-up in case anyone is looking for something similar...

Trying a more creative search string in Google, I managed to turn up the following...

bbTools:

http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/bbtool19.zip

PS_Analyzer:

http://www.codeproject.com/cs/media/prog...ect=896140

I haven't yet found anything similar to process dvr-ms files but the CodeProject page has the source code for PS_Analyzer so I might be able to modify it if I can't find anything else.

Cheers,
Brian

You could possibly try recording using the TS Mux option and I'll give you a version of GBPVRConvert.exe that'll handle the .ts to .mpg coversion (via either Cyberlink mux or ATI mux), which would take the DVR-MS mux out of the equation. It might make a difference.

I'd be happy to try some experiments with the TS Mux. As you say, it'll take dvr-ms out of the equation.

I'm guessing you've worked out that I'm still trying to track down my Film4 sync issues. Smile

I've attached a version of GBPVRConvert that you can run manually with:

GBPVRConvert source.ts dest.mpg MPEG-2

or

GBPVRConvert source.ts dest.mpg MPEG-2 "ATI MPEG Multiplexer"

Got it - I'll give it a try and let you know what happens.

It looks to me as if dvr-ms isn't the problem.

I tried a couple of recordings from Film4 using the TS Mux option and tried the GBPVRConvert.exe you attached. In both cases, using either the Cyberlink or ATI mux option, the AV still goes out of sync after FF or Skip when playing back on the MVP.

Another thing I've discovered which makes me think the dvr-ms files I've been recording aren't to blame is if I run comskip on the original dvr-ms files, it doesn't log audio PTS anomalies. It seems to always complain about them with the transcoded mpg files (using either the Cyberlink or ATI muxes).

I also tried using the ATI mux for direct recording to mpeg2 - again the same sync issues. It looks like these muxes don't like the higher bitrate. Or could there be another explanation?

It would be so much easier if someone produced a DVB-T card that demuxed/remuxed the program stream in hardware and delivered it in the same way as the analogue cards with hardware encoders do. Oh well.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi B,
your speaking out of my heart! Same problems here (-> "v0.995 - some feedback"-thread). It doesn't matter in which format the recording has been done (mpg via cyberlink, mpg via ati or dvr-ms). The only solution so far I've found is to demux/repair it with "projectx" and remux it with "imago-multiplexer" by hand. Very unsatisfying!!

Cyberlink and ATI seem to do a dirty job with muxing high bitrate data. That's why i suggested sub to create a kind of TS-PS transcoding filter for playback on mvp.

Its actually not an easy job, and I have tried, but failed misserably. The Cyberlink and ATI muxes do a much better job than my attempt at it.

I agree with you, at least cyberlink does it's work right at "normal" bitrate recordings. But both give unsatisfied results on high rate.

I recently tried to workaround by using dvr-ms. Playback, FF/Rew and skip are working fine via cyberlink mux. I set the delay to 500 ms, so it's starts quick also. But no access to live-tv or whilst recording. This is very important to me.

Edit: Isn't cyberlink muxer able to handle TS also??
