Hi,
I'm new to GBPVR and am trying to sort out my installation problems by reading through these forums.

Currently, I can't get the Media Center 2005 Remote Control and Infrared Receiver to work in my XP Pro SP2 GBPVR installation.

GBPVR doesn't respond to the Remote commands, and if I use an Internet Explorer window that's scrollable, it doesn't respond to up and down either. (The Remote, Receiver, and the IE scroll test work fine on another PC with MCE2005 installed. For info, The remote has Model 1039 on the back.)

The XP Pro box has SP2 installed, and I've installed the KB912024 patch and rebooted.

I then plug my IR Receiver into the USB port, and XP automatically detects and installs it - I get the following entries in Device Manager:
- Human Interface Devices (various entries including Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver)
- Universal Serial Bus controllers (eHome Infrared Receiver)

None of these entries has info or error icons.

When I press any button on the remote the red light on the receiver flashes, but neither GBPVR nor Internet Explorer respond.

Has anyone got any other suggestions how to fix this please?

Any advice very much appreciated

Hi!

Have a look at HIP (http://www.byremote.com.au) and look at the hip guide in the Wiki. HIP is used for remotes with GBPVR and other utils. If should also give you some ideas on why its not working.

Also this is not XP Pro x64 edition???? MCE remotes will NEVER work under 64 bit edition.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response andy, I'll try that link today.

I was aware of HIP but was under the impression that my particular model of remote control shouldn't need HIP to work - from elsewhere in the FAQ, my model appears to be supported natively.

Because Internet Explorer doesn't even respond, I'm thinking there's another driver or hotfix issue that I need to resolve.

Thanks for your help though.

Andy, meant to mention - it's not a 64-bit machine I've got, just a regular 32-bit one...

Yes, there seems to be some driver missing, or something similar. Normally the Internet Explorer scroll would work, and GB-PVR would work when the remote type is set to 'MCE Remote'.

Unfortunately its been so long since I plugged in my MCE Remote that I cant remember if there were any special steps - I dont think so though. I think I just plugged it in.

Thanks for your response - and your time - sub.

I've been trying again tonight, and found that there's some signal getting through - the only button on the MCE 2005 2a Remote I can get to work is the top-right PC standby button.

Nothing else works though.

I'll keep experimenting and post findings...if I find anything that is!

I'm really keen to get GBPVR working after some bad experiences with a dedicated Media Center 2005 machine, but I've got a few teething problems to solve yet.

Thanks again for your time though - I appreciate it's valuable...

Just to close this off - my Remote Control is working after all.

I'd been using Remote Desktop from another laptop to configure GBPVR on its PC. In this config, the Remote Control didn't appear to be working.

Finally put a monitor on the GBPVR PC and the Remote Control was working fine.

Doesn't explain why the Internet Explorer window didn't show a basic scroll up/down, but at least it's working.

Lesson Learned : Don't trust Remote Desktop for anything but basic configuration, and even then, don't trust it much...
