Hello,
I am considering setting up a gbpvr system soon (but first I need to find a computer) although I am prepared to obtain one. I'd probably get one similar to my setup now. The details can be found in my other post titled, "Hauppauge PVR 150 w/blaster, SA-Explorer 2000."

Anyway, I am having problems trying to burn dvds in mythtv which is frustrating me and I would still like to try a Windows setup (not MCE) and see how it operates regarding burning DVDs. The main reason to do all this is to avoid the costs of renting a digital cable PVR box from the local cable company. That is why mythtv and gbpvr are my main choices currently.

Is there any sticky or thread regarding burning dvds? Either I missed it and couldn't find one or there are seperate posts on the issue depending on the particular problem?

I was hoping there are certain steps and that it is not too complicated. I hope to get dvd-quality and store recordings on a harddrive until they are burned on DVD.

I appreciate any advice and/or explanations.

I am relatively confident I can find info here to guide me in setting up gbpvr (although, I am a bit concerned about the setting up of the IR blaster for changing channels - is that covered here?). But, I anticipate some problems burning but hopefully, there are already discussions on this.

There is no built in DVD recording functionality, but I think some other developers have made plugins that can do this - but I've not tried these myself.

Is there anything other than Showburner? I've never heard of that one.

so far, I am using Nero to burn the shows I want to save, separate and apart from the GBPVR system. I am taking the programs directly from my GBPVR directory and have not needed to transcode them or anything. It works well for me. I am planning on trying showburner in the future to see what the difference is.

Showburner is the way to go. It adds on to the transcode menu and allows you to burn dvds. It's not a plugin, it's a utility on the wiki.
If you have a Hauppauge card the files are already DVD compatible and don't require transcoding to DVD format first. It's setup so that the commercial skips are the chapters. The only thing I wish it would do is to make a chapter menu on the DVD. Check out this part of the showburner thread hopefully it will explain enough to get you going.
