My PVR 500 broke so I went and bought a HVR 1600. I'm trying to move my remote over from my PVR 250 to the new 1600, but I cant seem to get them loaded properly. I read zaphod7501 has this working, but I keep having issues.

I cleaned out all the Hauppauge and GBPVR software and started from scratch. I installed the 1600 and got the remote working, the I installed the 250. WinTV sees both cards, but seems that only the 250 is scanning and viewing. This is consistent with GBPVR's behavour too. If I record, the 1600 is device #1, I cant playback the file. The files that are being created by the 1600 are zero byte. I cant seem to get any ATSC video either, so the 1600 seems pretty dead. Now when I added the device, GBPVR was able to scan all my OTAs fine.

I'm including tonights frustration of logs. If someone has this working, then was there some sequence to get it going? It seems like one step forward and two steps back.

Any help is appreciated.

I have it working but have a few issues because I'm running Windows 2000 (very unsupported) and a poor video card. Recently, after a reboot, the HVR will work if I run it first and I can then switch back and forth. If I run the 250 first, (or use WinTvCap to run the 250) then the HVR will only do ATSC, not analog. I have to use some odd combination of drivers because the XP hcw18bda.sys will blue screen at boot. I have a MyHD and a Hollywood Plus in the PC also, so I have a lot of potential conflicts. I'm not bothering to do any troubleshooting until my new video card comes in.

In any case, if the HVR locks up, you have to do a full power down (sometimes power cord also) before it will initialize again. Drivers are still a little flakey IMHO but you should try the latest drivers (check the shspvr forum.)

The 1600 uses a blaster, while the 250 only has a receiver. I hope you're trying to switch to the 1600's remote and not plug the 250's receiver into the 1600's jack.

Just so you know. Both the HVR1600 and PVR250 should be device #1, since they dont share drivers.

I cant see any errors relating to analog. If you run the Tuning Assistant, do you see any channels?

It looks like you did an ATSC scan, and I can see it found a dozen or so channels.

I did a short write-up of my settings for someone else here on the forum. Take a look and see if any of this helps. http://www.garrisonrentals.com/HDTV/contents.html
Excuse the fact that it is still rather crude and only slightly edited.

Oh, sub's right (surprise, surprise) about setting all your tuners to device number 1 in the config.

Okay,

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ended out when I switched PCI slots the HVR started working. I won't mention how many times I reinstalled before that.

So now I have both the PVR 250 and the HVR 1600 working in GBPVR. Everything is set to device 1 and all is recognized. I didn't load the IR blaster sw, that's not my intention. Neither remote seems to work yet. I can see cable and ATSC in WinTV, but can only see cable within GBPVR. I am able to get sound on ATSC, but no video.

I will say this card is a real challenge at this point. I've included my logs, but I'm betting that it is related to my decoder. I've just left it on default, but I'm scared to touch anything more without maybe a little more educated guess.

Any further advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

This probably relates to your video decoder. What do you have selected on the playback tab of the config app? Dont go with 'system default' since it'll effectively use a random decoder.

I had set it as system default with VMR9. I've changed it to VMR9Customer and selected CyberLink. Now I get the show title and summary, but no picture. It shows the signal strength meter on screen, but nothing is registering on the meter.

My ATSC settings mimic dgeezer's, and when I search for the channel mappings, all of the expected. The OTA cable has a splitter that goes to an STB and the signal strength is fine. Its odd because WinTV plays the OTA digital channels fine.

My decoder shows InterVideo also, but I'm recording now so I'll try tomorrow using that decoder?

Should I view it with WinTV and use a tool (GraphEdit?) and see what decoder is being used?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

Each night is one step closer to putting the lid back on. I changed to the Intervideo decoder and WOW, Houston we have lift off!!!

This is my same PC that I had the DVICO FusionHDTV 5 Lite in and while the HVR 1600 was MUCH harder to get going, the picture is not jittery at all.

Now the last piece of the puzzel is getting the remote to work. The PVR 250 and the HVR 1600 have remotes. When I look at the Hauppauge website they have IR SW for each, different versions. No matter what I install I cant get either remote active. I've had one working at a time in the past, but not when both cards are in. Is there a way to configure the remote? I don't care which I use, just want that last piece of the puzzell.

Thanks for the help, its been a slow process...
