I have been using gbpvr for a few weeks now. I am trying to get the green windows button on my remote to start gbpvr. On top of that I am also trying to setup the window focus. I usually watch the recorded program on my PC and want to fast fwd through the commercials (have not setup comskip yet). Is there anyway the remote will focus on the gbpvr window without using the mouse. I have tried the suggestions in numerous threads but nothing seems to work.

There is no built in functionality that does either of these, but you achieve this via third party software like HIP.

sub - I've seen the HIP guide and tried reading through it a few times but get a bit lost. There's a line in there that says (and I'm paraphrasing) "You could just ask someone for a setup file, but then we wouldn't learn anything would we??"

Well to be totally honest here, I don't want to learn anything new :p !

I have so many things I'm have to learn for my business (MCE certs, AJAX, XML, Marketing, Sales, Cisco stuff, etc etc) my head's literally about to explode...but GBPVR is supposed to be about entertainment, and escaping all this stress - right? <G>..

Is there anyone who would be willing to share a HIP config for this remote and GBPVR so I could just install HIP, apply the config and be done with it? Is there a resource for d/ling it you could point me to? I don't mean to sound like a selfish dick but I just can't see the point in learning all about the wonders of HIP and Girder for one task. I don't mind learing more about GBPVR itself, but the amount of time it appears I'd have to invest in HIP/Grisder to get it to simulate the missing color buttons or to use the green button to start GBPVR like the OP asked seems more trouble than it's worth.

Or maybe I'm just reading the wrong guide (one posted on the WIKI)....

Sorry, I cant help you with that one. I dont use HIP myself, so I cant help provide you much help getting it going.

I find the built in GB-PVR support for MCE remote does everything I want - but I know there always some people that will want to be able to do things differently, or add extra functionality, but this is really extra stuff and the user will need to look into third party software solutions.

I'd also be happy if someone posted a guide to help people through it, but I cant be the person to do that since I know next to nothing about HIP. I think its just one of those freaky apps that dont work in a logical way, which makes learning it awkward.

Sub you're busy enough working on core needs, I hope you didn't think I expected you to teach me HIP....I'm just grateful for the time you spend on GBPVR - sorry if I wasn't clear enough about that in my 'rant'. This was more of an open call to a pointer if you knew of one better than the ones I've been looking at.

I guess I must have some other remote - almost every app for GBPVR makes some use of the colored buttons, none of which are on the MCE remote that comes with the PVR150MCE. I don't need the top row of buttons on the remote (the menus work just fine thanks) and I'd be glad if I could just reprogram them to simulate the colored buttons - but when I folowed all the std guides for remapping them, their either wrong or work inconsistently, leaving me to believe the only option I have is to buy the newer remote from Hauppague with all the colored buttons. Of course even then I can't be sure if it will work since I can't find anyone who's done this.

If I could just find someone (there's got to be SOMEONE out there who's done this!!) who has successfully reprogrammed ANY of the buttons on the MCE remote that comes with the PVR150MCE to simulate the colored buttons and convince them to share their keymaps - most of my needs would be taken care of.

Well, it sure makes me feel better to here you say that, because I was beginning to think I was just stupid or something. Even the guides I *do* find start to bend my brain after a few pages. Oh well, at least I still have the wireless keyboard and a printed list of short cuts in the meantime...Big Grin

Thanks for your input, sub, seriously. I know how much time you put into this and anytime I get a personal response from you on a post I am a bit humbled by it. And you can be sure if I ever *do* find a simple way to work out the HIP issues (when I have more time) I'll gladly contribute a guide to help others out.

Yes, you do have a different remote. Both my MCE2004 and MCE2005 remote have the four coloured buttons.

That said, I am aware of the lack of these buttons on the US versions of the MCE remotes, so for a long time now I've been avoiding adding features which depend colour buttons. There are still some features in the core GB-PVR that use these buttons, but a lack of other available buttons in common on multiple remotes has meant there is no logical choice of where to move these functions.
