Hi,

I've just set up my MVP to run with the gbpvr software. Everything seems to be fine with the occasional crashing of the MVP unit and then the need to restart the gbpvr software on my computer so the MVP can recognize it (any suggestions?). My bigger issue right now is the inability of the gbpvr software to "see" any of my TiVo Recording files. The gbpvr sees and plays all my MP3's but not my TiVo video files. Can anyone please offer me some assistance?

Thanks!

Mike

Are you tivo files just regular .mpg files? Are they somewhere on your drive?

The file type is listed as: TiVo Recording and opens with Windows Media Player. That's all I know. Any ideas?

I dont really know anything about tivo and the files they record. If they're not .mpg or .avi files though, then they probably wont work on the MVP. There is bound to be some utility out there to convert these tivo files into an mpg file, after which they should play fine on the MVP.

Is .mpg or .avi the only two recognized formats for the gbpvr software?

.AVI or .MPG are only formats I test, and these are by far the most popular video types. That said, you can play alot of other sorts of video files when you use GB-PVR on your PC, since it just uses directshow video decoders the same as Windows Media Player etc.

...but the MVP only has playback support for MPEG1/MPEG2 and MP3 files, so you're much more limited when using an MVP. GB-PVR contains some logic to do on the fly conversion of AVI files to MPEG2 format to make it appear like the MVP can play AVI files.

I don't have a tivo so I've not tried this but I've read in other forums that some programs work with tivo files if you change the extension to mpg. Worth a shot.
You also might get some help from http://thegreenbutton.com/ which offers conversion tools and has a good forum from what my buds tell me.

This utility works VERY well, and is free. Converts .tivo to .mpg. I often use to convert for playing on MVP via GBPVR..

Thanks for the help, however, the tivodecode just seems like too much work. I've got TiVo Desktop on my computers and it works great... I'm looking for something like that for my MVP. Are there any plans to make gbpvr compatible with TiVo files? Is there a way to get TiVo Desktop to run on my MVP? If not, I'll probably just have to hook up my laptop to my TV and watch shows thru TiVo Desktop
