Hi
I'm trying to set up GB-PVR but I can't install or scan for any channels.

I've followed the instructions in setting up the recording source
(Recording Source - BDA Recording
Settings:
Device type - Nova-T 500
Area - Southern England
Transmitter - Rowridge

But how do I add or get the channels?
I'm guessing I have to use the EPG Update which either scans the freq. or downloads the freq. of each channel broadcast from Rowridge. Trouble is I can't work out how.

I've tried selecting None for EPG source hoping it might do a scan of receivable channels: nothing. I've selected XML TV Plugin (no idea what it is but I tried it) but in the EPG Source Setting it needs a XMLTV File - which I don't have. Lastly I tried DVB EPG Broadcast which when I click Update EPG says "Saving new channel and listing information" and then goes away without any channels ever being listed.

So am I missing something? How to I install/scan/import the channels? Am I being incredibly thick or what?

Amsued

Running:
Vista
Hauppage Nova-T 500 Twin Tunner (Neither of which work)
The card is fine 'cause it works with the AWFUL WinTV 2000 software.

Most UK users use the XMLTV grabber from: http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/

Hi Sub
Thanks for the reply.
I've tryed XMLTV - Downloaded the listings (from Radio Times) and created a data.xml file.

However if I point GB-PVR to the data file and Update EPG same thing happens: it ways "Saving New Listings and Channel Information" but doesn't import any channels. What am I doing wrong?

Did you press the "map digital channels" button in the config app? It should then start scanning for channels, and after that you should map the channels found to the ones in your epg setup.

Hm. I just checked the wiki, and it is *not* very nice to us DVB users. It seems it's *very* americanized... Sad

Sorry been at work.
Nice idea Stefan. I've tried "map digital channels".
It just tells me in need to import my list of EPG channels before attempting to scan. Even if I select no EPG It still claims I need to import the EPG Channels (I don't need an EPG, I've got Digiguide and plan to use DABDig to start and record GB-PVR). I don't understand why it can't just scan for receivable channels like WinTV etc. does.

In case I've not been clear up to his point, in the Edit Recording Source window I can enter my tv card, the EPG source etc. but the Channels area is utterly, totally blank. No channels, no frequencies, nothing.

What is digiguide? Is that the thing where you download the guide off the air, through your card? I've never used it. The program data here in sweden is almost useless - we get at best infor for a couple or three hours ahead... Sad So I use xmltv.

If that's the case, then my guess is that you need to set EPG to... eh, I just reread what you wrote. DABDig, huh? GBPVR is really not made for that kind of scheduling. How did you plan on scheduling a recording from DABdig? I suggest you read this:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ght=DABDig
And then rethink about using xmltv Big Grin

I don't care If I use XMLTV or not. All I want to do is get GB-PVR working so I can watch and record channels.

Digiguide is a TV listing guide program. It's like £10 for 3 years and downloads listing from the internet and displays them in a easy to read grid. It's also extremely flexible. You can set things like reminders which use the Microsoft speech engine to audibly inform you that "Lost starting in 10 minuets on BBC1" or whatever. DAGDig is a plugin for digiguide (at least I think it's DAGDig, I've downloaded so many progs I may be using the wrong name) which adds a "record" button to digiguide. In theory all you have to do I click the programm you want from the grod and click the Record button and DAGDig (or whatever it is) adds the channel, start & stop time etc" to the PVR of your choice (in this case GB-PVR hopefully).

The digiguide/DAGDig is a theory/dream at the mo (thou it works with the Hauppauge schedule). My point is I don't need a EPG to tell me what prog is showing when, if need me I'll Alt/Tab between digiguide and GB PVR and set the recording manually for a bit same as I used to with the VCR/Radio Times. All I want to to import/scan/find the receivable channels in GB-PVR. If I have to use XMLTV fine. If i can do it without fine. I just don't understand how.

Let me see if I can draw an outline for you.
1) create capture source (or edit the one you have) Recording source should be "BDA recording plugin", in settings you should have your device and your country/transmitter. I think you got this already.
2) EPG source. You can choose to either use EPG source "xmltv plugin" and point it to your xmltv file. Or you can choose none.
a) In the case of "none" you need to "OK" your way out, and then go back and edit your capture source again. THen you'll find an "add" button below the channels. You can then add the channels you are interested in manually. I don't recommend that of the reason in my previous posts.

b) If you choose xmltv, then, you should be able to click "update EPG". That will (should) fill the channels list with the channels you have in you xmltv file.
3) Map channels. *After* you have set up your channels, click "map digital channels to EPG channels". That will give you a new window where your device will scan available channels. Each one you are interested in must then be mapped to one in your EPG channel list. You do that with the little dropdown next to each channel.
4) You should be done. Smile You don't need a channel changer. That's for set top boxes.

Ok
I'm now fairly certain something's screwed up.

With replies from stefan and the exclent thread I found here I'm figured out that I've been doing it right the whole time, it's just it's not working Sad

I've done everything stefan said up to 2(b) cause when I click update EPG no channels are added. When I click Update EPG it opens a new window saying "the System is updating the EPG listings..." with "Saving new listing and channel information" in bold.
However this lasts for maybe 1 second before disappearing. No channels are listed in the channels area. I can't every get to mapping then 'cause they never get entered. Are their any UK users (or anyone with experience of XMLTV GUI Grabber) who can shed some light on this?
