Change bitrate for streaming to PC client?

Sorry if this information is already available somewhere. I came up empty after searching for quite a while on the wiki and the forums.

I'd like to change the bitrate streamed to a laptop client PC from my desktop where I have a Sapphire ATI 550 card installed. The desktop is honkin, but the laptop just doesn't have enough juice to output stutter-free video in this configuration.

I've tried many combinations of codec/renderer configurations and also made the quartz.dll fix on the laptop, to no avail. The laptop CPU is pegged and it just doesn't have enough gas.

I am convinced the solution is to reduce the bitrate of data being streamed from the server to client. I've tried changing the settings in the <capture sources> tab at the server, but it seems like they are ignored in the context of live TV. I always get a streaming bitrate of approx. 5Mb and could easily do with half that rate for this particular application.

Is there a way to configure the streaming bitrate for live TV with the ATI 550? Is there a way to configure it in general for other capture sources?

I'm fairly sure you'd only need to edit the 'Live TV' bitrate in the capture source settings. Alternatively you can edit it in the [SETUP-LiveTV Quality] section of direct.ini in the gbpvr directory.

Modifying the direct.ini at the server worked, thanks. I don't have a 'Live TV' bitrate setting visible in the capture source settings (or anywhere in the config interface). Do others have this option through the config interface?

I'm assuming the Live TV bitrate has to be modified directly at the server and that the option doesn't make to modify at the client end. Or is it functionally possible for the client to relay the requested Live TV bitrate to the server which then reconfigures the appopriate capture source before beginning the streaming process...?

Correct. It only uses the setting on the server.
