It appears it tries to record as a .mpg, then does dvr-ms on the second chance? Is that right? I end up having to manually rename all of the recordings ( take off the -1 at the end of them ).

When it starts a recording for the first time, it supplies the recording plugin a suggested filename with a .mpg extension. The recording plugin will return the 'final name', which maybe different. In this case, you're using the Microsoft DVR-MS mux so the, so the final name has a .dvr-ms extension.

In this example you've supplied, the initial recording failed for some reason, so it tried to restart it soon after, adding "-1" to the filename.

Ah, that it explains it, I thought I had cleverly discovered why it fails to record every single time, and then restarts successfully. Whenever you watch live tv, it goes to a black screen, then the signal screen comes up, then it gets signal, then you can switch through the channels fairly fast and you never see the signal screen again. It is like my hvr-1600 is taking a nap when it's it is not tuned, and the first tuning request is just the wakeup call.

Thanks for the reply!

You could try setting <BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>true</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord> in config.xml

I have that setting set to true currently. Is it ignoring my setting or can you tell from that log snippet? I don't see anything in the logs that indicates it is tuning twice ( before the "file not growing" bit ), would there be some indication in the recording service logs?
