Calling all closed-caption users. We need to get some money together to send sub an NTSC vcr and vcr tapes with closed-captioning embedded in the video. Wait, we can do that with an NTSC DVD player and DVD's with CC. So what do you say we find a way to pool a little bit of money and send this stuff to him? Is the DVD player a lot more expensive than a vcr? I could just record shows to DVD with CC. My time at home is limited though. Which DVD players playback raw mpegs? Do they playback the CC?

Sub, we need a sticky or a sub-forum for CC also. As you see you will always be getting questions on this - http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=26013

Is the problem really the source? I think it is more related to the source capture drivers being able to insert the CC info in the VBI into the mpeg stream as sub-title like a text stream I've been trying to create an mpeg2 file one with pvr 150 to test with mvpmc but I can't seem to do it. MCE is able show the CC though so it should be is possible.

I would be up for chipping in. It's too bad that vnc'ing in is too slow otherwise it would be easy to give sub access to a machine with CC and let him do the magic.

I don't know if this could happen, but obviously it's a lot closer from say Hong Kong than the US. Any GBPVR users there want to buy an NTSC player and ship it to sub? We could chip in via paypal.

Maybe better yet is Japan.

Do you mean Windows XP Media Center? That has a proprietary overhead. Maybe sub could make something similar. He has asked for a vcr and tapes to look into it so he has a source. Otherwise he has no source at all.
Oh hey Martin, now I recognize your name and user because you mentioned mvpmc.

Do they have NTSC players?

I wasn't suggesting using MCE I was saying it can read the VBI data from the PVR150 which is a good sign.

As for mvpmc if there's anything I can do to help for the mvp let me know. I'm pretty sure mvpmc supports native display and selection of multiple mpeg subtitle streams I just haven't implemented selection yet and I don't even have a sample to test. Then you wouldn't have to worry about mpg2srt

I believe you can buy NTSC equipment in Japan. Japan is similar to US NTSC with the exception that the VHF frequencies are differnet (uhf is the same I believe) and the audio is modulated differently for stereo. (fm versus am).
This would require the PVR150 tuner to work on Japanese frequencies.

There is NTSC tv in taiwan but probably not Mainland China.

At any rate, since a significant portion of US electronics is made in China or Japan, I would think you can buy equipment there. I would be very surprised if US NTSC equipment was not available in Hong Kong at one of the many electronics stores.

I think we need one of our Japanese, or PRC GBPVR users to confirm what is available.

Get the latest drivers for PVR150 and you can use the registry hack that was used with the PVR250/350.
