IMDB and TV.com listings like in "My Videos"?

I know this issue has crept up a bit in the past, but not quite for this exact subject which is trying to choose or create a successor for My Videos, especially for TV.com and IMDB listing lookups.

Personally, I think reven did the best job in making plugins for GBPVR with the "My" series, especially "My Videos." It's just a tragedy that we don't have it being developed/supported any longer.

The closest alternative seems to be VideoArchive, but it lacks the lookup features of My Videos. IMDB lookups work I believe, but the best part of My Videos was TV episode lookups; what an amazing feature! I had DVD rips of episodes, hundreds of them, just a scan and boom... it had posters and information for ALL of them in its database. That option simply isn't in VideoArchive or any other plugin that I've looked into.

Did reven release source code or anything that we could work off of? It would be a shame to start all over from scratch when we could have a good base.

VideoArchive is good and adding TV episode lookups would be a GREAT feature... but to be honest, My Videos is sooo much easier to use and well organized.

My Videos seems to work fine in .99.12 except for the lookups... maybe a "patch" could be made, an external app, that would scan it's database and do the lookups and save it back to the database..but that's kinda clunky.

reven didn't release any source. I'm trying to buidling something now that is MyVids lite. Just the parts where you could set directories, and the imdb.com/tv.com lookups (no burning).

I'm mainly doing it for myself, but I plan to release it w/ souce if I get something functional working. I'm a ways off, because I need to learn the programming in the process (I understand obj-oriented code, just need to learn syntax).

Cool, sounds like you've got a great project on your hands! Yeah no need for the burning functionality, other plugins can do that...the main focus is the tv.com lookups.. good luck! You using C# ?

Als I've got some code in a DLL of mine that goes to Amazon via their web services API and gets album art for music....I imagine they have the same for DVD covers/information.

My newest offering, ZRename takes the Title and Episode title from the database of a recorded show and looks it up on epguides.com. It's able to rename the file to include Season and Episode number.

The HTML ripping and parsing is very simple actually. I would imagine that it wouldn't be all that difficult to create an external app that plugs into VideoArchive...

Yes, I got the express version. Works great.

Personally, I'd use VA, but just my kids have 69 folders and 1193 videos, and we probably have 1/2 that much more in shows. W/o some extra organization system, it's totally unmanageable.

What type of additional organization are you looking for? The video archive plug-in lets you assign videos to groups and lets you create users with selective access to the various groups. This can be used to create accounts for your kids, for example.

just a little tip, use thetvdb.com
no need to scrap from tv.com, it has a nice and friendly xml interface, should make your life a lot easier.
