New user here. Been playing with MVP for a few weeks now. Using latest MVPMC dongle (5/31 build) and 99.12. Seems to be working well except I am having issues with AVI files playing to the end of file. Every file seems to be transcoding OK but stops 2 or 3 seconds before the end of file. Checked the temp mpg file and it is all there. Also had zprocess installed thinking that it was having an issue. Totally uninstalled zprocess and reinstalled gbpvr without zprocess and issue is still there. MPG files play just fine and dont have this issue. Is there a setting I am missing or is this a bug. Thanks

This could be an mvpmc problem because I do partially rely on the file size at the end of file and with non-mpeg's this isn't always reliable. However I don't test mvpmc with avi's because they are just containers to other formats. Can you can determine if this is a problem with mvpmc and not the Hauppauge dongle?

mvpmc is already set 100Mhz full duplex by default. You should be able to build mvpmc with just about any linux environment using all free tools. It is all c code with linux scripting. A cross compile environment could be set up in Window no one has bothered.

Hi martin, Got some time to do some more testing on this. Loaded the GBPVR latest dongle. What I see now is once I get near the end of file the behavior is even worse. 3 or 4 seconds before the end of file the video jumps to the end, closes the file and puts you back at the file menu. At least with the MVP dongle it stays paused right close to the end where you can (in pause mode) navigate back if you wish. So there definitely is a difference in the way the mpvmc dongle is handling this. This isnt a huge issue, but many times depending on the movie there can be important scenes right at the end. I know sub recomends coverting avi,s to mpg,s but this is a great convenience to just play my avi,s without converting them manually. It would be nice to see this work Smile. What would be really cool is if the file could play till the end , pause there with the option to navigate back, maybe to see something at the end again, browse credits in a movie etc;

Hi craven1. I'm not quite sure from your message if mvpmc is better or worse then the Hauppauge dongle, but I will have a look at the one divx file I have to see exactly what is happening at the end of file. However if gbpvr doesn't play the file to the end I won't be able to change it.

I personally agree with the suggestion on the pause at end of file, that's how mvpmc's filesystem playing mode works. I couldn't fake it with the Hauppauge protocol because I can't predetermine what the last block will be because for on the fly transcoding the file size is only an estimate.

Just to add input into this, I've been watching various avi's with mvpmc, overall it's great except at the very last 2-3 seconds wherein it stutters, pauses, and simply stops. Sometimes I can go back to the main menu, sometimes I can't.

1 Hauppauge PVR500MCE
2 MVP (2 Wired / 1 Wireless via 2 Linksys WRT54G routers)
1 dead MVP (searching for replacement)

How does the Hauppauge dongle handle these files with GBPVR?

Hauppage Dongle normally stops 2 secs before the end and returns to Main Menu.

I think for mvpmc purposes it would be best if GBPVR streamed the file until it was finished. However the symptom you write about sounds like emulation is confusing the end of file with a live tv change channel change, but it's a start at least it shouldn't timeout.

Thanks,

Martin
