Hi Martin,

I have, as per the title, extremely sluggish PCH Menu and then it won't play the file at all.

I'm not sure if this is related to the EWA plugin, but the only error I can see is in the web.log, for the file I was trying to play?

k.

There is a unacceptable performance issue on the server delivering data. The first thing the PCH does is request 1 MB of data regardless of resolution and this is just socket streaming not web based. On my machine this takes ~220 ms on yours ~4700

Code:
2011-04-19 12:40:48.083    [DEBUG][7]    Received: STREAM_REQUEST
2011-04-19 12:40:48.303    [DEBUG][7]    Request completed. 200000 bytes sent

2011-04-19 23:56:40.390    [DEBUG][7]    Received: STREAM_REQUEST
2011-04-19 23:56:45.095    [DEBUG][7]    Request completed. 200000 bytes sent

I cannot see how this is related to the PCH and I really don't have a suggestion, on how you might improve your server or network speeds

Regarding the sluggish menu, I would expect BRVE+ at HD res would be slower then Default but any network or server delays will impact menus as well.

OK Thanks Martin, maybe time for a whole wipe and reinstall... I guess those Socket Errors are no indication/

It is normal for the web server to report errors on the http socket, when the PCH closes one socket to seek on another.

I am still having issues with this PCH-A100 being terribly slow, on the PC it is fine, at my wits end. I've had all sorts of bother, new NIC, troubleshoot eventviewer etc. etc.

A few Q's to help troubleshoot?

1. I use a Linksys WRT54GS Router with Tomato F/W. Do I need to open any ports, such as those below, in the Router?
2. Does the Firewall need any more than excluded files?
3. Does AVG need any more excluded files?
4. Anything at all to check?

Sorry, no change or new information in those logs. Unfortunately it is impossible for me to support users who want attempt advanced firewall or router configuration of mpvmcx2 tightly locking down ports etc. If you have a typically router with an open local LAN and NextPVR.exe setup for TCP and UDP on all ports on the local LAN, and NRecord.exe open for TCP on the local LAN that is the as far as I wish to explain it.

The only thing new I can suggest is telnet to the PCH and type ifconfig, it might report network related errors.

Hi Martin,

Sorry, I was just trying to eliminate any obvious issues with various parts of my system. I would imagine it's either (i) NPVR software, (ii) My Router, (iii) My Network Card, (iv) Hard Disk or (v) the PCH itself.

I'm not really trying to "tightly lock down ports" the thing "had" been working with the router config for a few years all through GBPVR and NPVR.

I did the ifconfig both for PCH not running NPVR and Running it.

I also tested the file I wanted to play using PCH native Syabas system. Same very sluggish file playback, but OK on the PC (so (i) and (iv) above should be OK).

This leaves either (v) the PCH bailing out or (ii) / (iii) Router/NIC issues.
Given I have tried TWO separate NICs YUKON onboard and a PCI Express Intel I added in, I'm guessing (iii) is OK. I also tried my spare WRT54GS Router, same config as my current one, so (ii) might be OK (or not if it's a config issue).

You can't help with (ii) and I don't expect you to, but if I had to "hard-reset" or otherwise test the PCH, is there a way to do this?

Thanks

k.

as you can I have been trying to trouble shoot it, the whole issue is it's just getting "old" and time-consuming.

I can't tell how to tell if the PCH's NIC is bad but if you want to check the performance of the network I guess you can try and copy a 100 MB file

1) place the file in your mvpmc share to test network and SMB performance with this

dd if=/etc/mvpmc/filename of=/dev/null bs=4096

2) from the web server test the network, web server and http performance

First place the test file in the NPVR web directory C:\Users\Public\NPVR\web\public rename it to a txt extension then fetch it

wget http://##.##.##.##:8866/public/filename -O /dev/null

k,

1. For the file in the mvpmc share, make sure you copy it in so that it gets the correct permissions, a Windows screen shot won't show you this. The linux equivalent of the DOS "DIR" command is "ls" so from putty type

ls /etc/mvpmc

to see the files that the PCH sees. You can confirm that you are doing things correctly when you copy a know file

dd if=/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 of=/dev/null bs=4096

2. Error 404 is from the web server, I would expect that the file you are looking for is not in \Users\Public\NPVR\web\public

you can confirm that it works with the known file

wget http://##.##.##.##:8866/public/test_thumb.jpg -O /dev/null

These test files are too small for a long test, but it gets you going.
