When I click on properties while playing a recorded video in mplayer2 classic, I see the following info:

Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 6000Kbps [Video]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 224Kbps [Audio]
Subtitle: DVD Subpicture [Subtitle]

Where can I change these recording settings into standard SVCD or how can I select a similar recording profile ?

I wish to use the following recording settings:

VIDEO: 480x576 SVCD MPEG2 Video @ 12MB/s
AUDIO: MP3 320kbps Audio 44.1Khz

In config, tab Capture Sources, Edit, Direct Recording Plugin Settings,
there are 6 Quality Profile names visible. There is an Edit button.
When I change the first profile, nothing is different.
How do I change a profile, and where do I select a profile ?

when you record it uses medium unless you select one of the others so edit the medium setting to what you want

ok, thanks, I did not know that.
I am still puzzled where the other quality settings are used for.
I also noticed related stuff in the direct.ini file but how that is applied
is nowhere explained. I guess I have to do a little more forum searching.
thanks again.

If you do a 'quick rec' then it uses the default quality setting (medium). If you do a 'record' instead, then you can specify what recording profile you want to use. 'quick record' is effectively just telling it to use all the defaults (pre-padding, post-padding, quality etc). Its not complicated.
