Hi all.

I just upgraded to 1.08. I installed the c++ runtime first, then gbpvr.

When I try to start pvrx2 I get:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\PVRX2.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

And, of course, it never starts.

Anyone ever see this message before? I searched google for it, but most of the answers I found were pretty non-specific.

Thanks

I get this if I try and start a pvrx2 but the old one hasn;t finished shutting down.

[edit]: If the OP hadn't installed vcredist first, I can;t see how he wouldn have got past the install, unless he selected ignore I suppose]

Sub: I launch pvrx2.exe -fse from a bat file but when I select exit from pvrx2, it takes about 1-2 mins before the bat file closes down (and pvrx2 is still running as a process). The delay is after the last entry in the log which was deletetexture or something (at work atm).

any thoughts?

Hi.
Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I installed vcredist first. That's the C++ runtime, I believe.

I tried running Sysinternals filemon and then started pvrx2. The only file that the executable ever opened was comctl32.dll. It's dated 8/25/06 and is version 6.0.2900.2982. Could someone check their local copy of this and report back the version? Mine is in directory D:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.2982_x-ww_ac3f9c03, though I guess you should just search your Windows directory for it, since it looks like the directory is version related.

Thanks.

hmmm, the plot thickens.

The machine I first installed it on is pretty polluted. It's a home built model and the last fresh install of XP was at least a couple of years ago, and I've installed untold amounts of software on this thing. It's my workhorse.

Anyway, I figured the problem could be a conflict of some sort, so I decided to install it on another pc which is only 6 months old, store bought and pretty clean.

Same freakin' problem!

Does it produce any logs?

Does dxdiag utility run, indicating you have directx installed?

Yeah, dxdiag runs. I'm running directx 9.0c. I should note that I had a pre 1.0 version of gbpvr running just fine for months.

Here's the pvrx2 log in toto:

What video card are you using? Does it support VMR9?

It may be that the answer is in the last line of the log.

As I understand it (i.e. not well), PVRX9 only runs in VMR9 mode. You might try setting VMR9 Custom in config.exe and running gbpvr.exe to see if that works.

Good luck

ah.... I have just figured out another reason that I get this error and it is kind of related to trittico's problem.

When my pc wakes from standby, the graphics card does not seem to wake up quickly enough. Pre 1.x, I used to get a dialog box saying "your system does not suport vmr9", I'd clear the error and then gbpvr would start fne. The new version of this problem with pvrx2 appears to be the reporting of this MS c++ runtime error.

I don;t think switching to VMR9 custom is going to help with pvrx2, I think it ignores this setting.
[edit] actually I think this is only true if you launch pvrx2 with the -fse extension (from a batch file)

trittico: Were you using vmr7 or overlay before you upgraded to 1.0.8? If so, you will have to set it back to that and stick to running gbpvr.exe instead of pvrx2.

Sub: is there anyway you can test for vmr9 support before it barfs and if so, report the error in a diaglog window with a say a 10 sec timeout that doesn;t require a manual OK? (which would help me with my gbpvr autoit script that makes sure everything is running ok when it comes out of standby.
