Please Mr. Sub, could you provide some insight into the mysterys of tuner allocation logic. Big Grin

I had some recordings last night that looked like this in the guide.

Channel 1: A-----A
Channel 2: B-----BC-----C

I have three tuners. I expected The 3rd would start on program C and allow the other two to complete thier post padding. But instead
the tuner on B stoped and then started C.

All tuners have all chanels maped.

Back when I had only two tuners I found the <PreferAltinatingSource> set true worked well. But I did think that was only for two tuners.

I know there have been many requests to manually select the tuner - I am not looking to do that, just wondering - how does it work?
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

Usually a recording will be allocated to the first available capture source from the top of the capture source list that has the requested channel. It does not take padding into account.

The rules change a little if it is a back to back recording and you have more that one tuner and have PreferAlternatingCaptureSources set to true. Then it'll go through the capture source list again, looking for available capture source, with the requested channel, with no adjacent recording. This comes with a slightly increased risk of generating conflicts that will not be automatically resolved.
