I've been running GBPvr for a while but I really seldom watch live tv. I'm trying to transition over to using GBPvr for all of my tv viewing, but I'm seeing a very annoying video skip every now and then. It's probably once every few minutes and it seems like I'm losing maybe a couple of frames at most. My wife really doesn't notice it, but I do. It's most noticeable on news channels with the news ticker at the bottom of the screen.

I've been toying around with the video decoders and have managed to keep my cpu usage between 30-40% while watching live tv. I'm using the ATI MPEG Video Decoder with system default for Audio Decoder and Audio Renderer and VMR9. What really puzzles me is that I'm not maxing out the cpu at all. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these hiccups? Would having a dedicated sound card help the overall performance of my machine or is the onboard sound adequate?

Are you using a LCD? And viewing Pal?

If so it might have something to do with the refresh rate.

To get a smooth ticker on the bottom of the screen you should be using 50hz.

If its available

its to do with dropped frames caused by wrong frequency been used nornally
check the freq output of your video card output 60hz for ntsc
also try different deinterlacing method if you can
i use nvida purevideo decoder and you can with that
also the interlacing can play a part aswell

I think I changed this out shortly after installing GBPvr for the first time. Would this cause the 'problem' that I'm seeing?

Yes, I am using 60hz for ntsc from my tv out. The ATI Decoder doesn't have advanced options so I can't really change the deinterlacing.

Deinterlacing is used for a progressive display which you don't have. It's not that.
If you are using GBPVR and not PVRX2, try using overlay as the renderer. See if that helps. Is it program dependent or time dependent? In other words does it skip in the same place always during a scene or is it more random?

I'm running PVRX2. It's really random. I _think_ that it only happens in live tv, but I could be wrong. I guess I can do a test record on one of the news stations to check.

are you sure of this i know the final out put has to be interlaced but before that isnt it deinterlaced by the computer then interlaced again and this is where the problem comes from i thought
