Hi All,

I have the MVP set up useing GBPVR software on a computer serving the PVRX2.exe to the MVP love it.. plays images, MP3, MPEG, and DivX Well sort of .....

Some Divx films when i play them go to the back screen as if there will start playing and then either goes back to the PVRX2.exe screen or just resets the MVP back to "contacting Servers" ???

some DivX films play for 3 seconds and then go back to the PVRX2 menu

Some Divx Play fine .... whats going on here ???

MPEG films play fineits just a couple or three divx films that i load on the server dont play,

i down load a lot of Divx films as i can not be bothed to convert the DVDs i have. can any one shead some light on this..

Many THanks

Reproduce this, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

In this case its most likely your PC is unable to convert these to MPEG2 in the required 'faster than realtime'. What speed is the CPU in your machine? I usually recommend 2.4GHz P4 of faster.

According to the logs, it looks like ffmpeg is having problems converting this video file to MPEG2. Its hard to guess exactly why. You could try running the following command from the command prompt then see what the ffmpeg output is:

Code:
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -y -i "E:\Movies\Predator 2  DIVX.avi" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 25 -s 352x288 -f svcd "E:\PVR Config\Recordings\MVP000DFE004BFA2.mpg"
This should show you more detailed info about what it doesnt like.

For the times it drops back to the menu, I suspect you're probably finding your machine is not quite keeping up with transcoding higher bitrate divx files in faster than real time. You could try bumping up the <MVPTranscodePrePlayDelay> setting in config.xml, though this will most likely only help it run for a bit longer before eventually doing the same thing.

when i run the command in cmd i get the following

Usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted.

also what would you seggest putting the

Quote:<MVPTranscodePrePlayDelay>

setting to ?

Also what would you recommend CPU wise what CPU would you advise to you for transcoding etc

I'd have to believe ffmpeg's description, or is possible its encoded in a way ffmpeg doesnt understand. I dont really have any fix for you other than trying to re-encode the file.

For the falling back to menu problem, what is your <MVPTranscodePrePlayDelay> currently set to? Try doubling it, then play the file again. If still drops back to the menu, then I think you're out of luck on those files, with your PC unable to transcode them in faster than real time.

It really depends on the file you're trying to play. A P4 2.4GHz is usually about the bare minimum I'd recommend for transcoding, but in your case, with these files it does sound like its not quite enough, so the recommendation would probably be "a bit more than you've currently got" Big Grin

Maybe you can open a non working divx and a working one with Gspot.
the diffrence between those two should give you a hint where things go wrong.

If the file is corrupted or otherwise unplayable you can give divxrepair or divfix
a try

To overcome an "underpowered" cpu, you could try:
1. converting to mpg1
2. scale down the resolution to 360x240
3. scale down bitrate to 1024kbps
4. make sure you are not transcoding mp2 or mp3 audio that mvp can handle.

The above usually works fine for me. When I want to watch something in higher resolution and higher bitrate mpg2, I manually start the transcoding and give it a few minutes head start before watching with mvp.

I would say from the posts, that the DiVX is definitely one of those problem files. You might have to get a 'fix avi' type program, or reencode them...

I like sub's explanations about needing more PrePlayDelay, than mine... I would agree. I have only 2 ghz computers and I need to set the preplaydelay to 7500.

But if the file is corrupt, then no amount of PrePlay will help until the file is fixed...
