Hi Guys, apollogies if this has been asked before but I am new to GB-PVR and have been pulling my hair out trying to get my MVP to work.

When I try to play a recording or live tv the screen goes blank and the device goes back to "contacting servers" and then back to the menu's. When i check the logs (see attached) I see an error message in the MVP-PVRX2.log file to say it couldn't find the .mpg file.

I have trolled the forums and tried as many tweeks as I could find but nothing has worked. I am running 1.3.7. with a Hauppauge HVR4000 and caputing NZ Freeview DVB.

The only thing I have got to work so far is net radio. I have not put any video, photo or MP3 files on the PC yet. Hopefully I will try these tomorrow.

Any suggestions / help will be gratefully received.

The MVP cannot play any recordings or live tv from Freeview HD. It uses much more modern codecs than the MVP is capable of playing. Freeview HD uses H.264 video (high definition and standard definition) and HE-AAC audio. The MVP is only capable of playing standard definition MPEG2, with MPEG1-Layer2 audio.

You could use your HVR4000 to record the DVB-S version of Freeview. It is standard definition MPEG2 with MPEG1-Layer2 audio.

The more modern Popcorn Hour client device is much better suited to Freeview HD, and able to cope with the H.264 video, but still has some problems with the channels using HE-AAC audio. I'm hoping the audio problem will be resolved in the near future though.

Thanks for the quick response Sub, I will give the DVB-S a go once I find a dish etc. GB-PVR looks great, keep up the good work.

Thanks

Okay, while I am looking for a suitable satelite dish I decided to take a look at the analog tuner on the Hauppauge HVR-4000. I have managed to get all functions working sweet on the PC but when I try using the MVP I get the message, no tuner is available - watch a recording instead?

I get this message all the time wether I am using the tuner or not. I have tried stopping all WinTV and PowerCinima services incase they are hogging the tuner. This only happens when live TV is involved. Any suggestions

Can you record with device?

The analog side of the HVR4000 isnt officially support, due to the lack of hardware MPEG2 encoder. If you're lucky, it'll work if you have SoftMCE installed.

I tried recoding last night, which it said it was doing, but didn't appear in the recordings menu. I will try again tonight. I will laso give softmce a try.

When I was looking through the settings yesterday I saw a "Force Hardware Acceleration" in the Cyberlink mpeg2 video encoder setting's. I assumed this meant the HR-4000 had a MPEG 2 Hardware encoder? I was unable to watch live TV on the PC until I enabled this optionSmile

Thanks

If you didnt have Hauppauge SoftMCE installed, then it definitely wont work for recordings, or live tv on an MVP.

This setting is related to whether the video decoder will try use video acceleration features of your videocard during playback. It isnt related to your HVR-4000 or recording.

Softmce is now installed and recording works. Yay! Playback of recordings works, a little jerky but it is there. Yay! Live TV still not working. It starts to play for about a second and then the MVP drops out of emulation.

Thanks for all your advice Sub, looks like I still have a way to go understanding how it all works.

Cheers.

Okay. I now have a DVB-S source installed and working well. The only issue I am having now is viewing live TV through MVP. I have checked and the Live TV Buffer file is created and is a .mpg. I see and hear a few seconds but it stops after playing back the live TV buffer file. Currently I have the MVP Live TV Pre-Play Delay set to 3000, the mount of Live TV seen appears to change with this value i.e. the smaller the value the shorter the play back.

Playback and recording of all other video sources work fine.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

With the lack of logs this sounds like a ts file transcode issue. If the stream is SD as sub indicated and you REALLY need live tv, I'd see if using mvpmc helps. See more details here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=38770
