I've been trying to get a streaming client working over my 54mb wifi network.

Live tv is stuttering badly. Its fine using a cable rather than wifi, so must be a bandwidth thing.

I'm trying to stream digital terestrial using a HVR1300 in my server pc.

Its stuttering even when the laptop is next to the wifi base. That suggests to me that I'm stuck seeing as thats the best signal its going to get.

Any ideas? Or is 54b just not enough?

Thanks
Alan

Its probably ok for playing back recordings, but probably not for live tv. Read my comments here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=28415

Thanks for the replies.
Looks like wifi isnt good enough. Maybe when 802.11N comes down in price I'll give that a try.

I've got absolutely no problems with 54g either (live or recordings) - I've attached my client config.xml - might give you something else to compare with.

mangroa: I also get no problems streaming to VLC from web interface. You might want to try that. If it works it won't really help with your gbpvr client problem, but it might encourage you to persist with 54g...

My WIFI setup works perfectly as well but I'm connecting at 108Mbps with an 'Excellent' connection.

agreed, 802.11G is good enough for streaming recordings (although it really depends on the bitrate you use!)

It will work over 54mbit wireless with wep 64 on, but you can't have any interference. I was having a lot of issues with that (unsure if it was neighbor's cordless phones or what) and I gave 802.11a (which uses a dedicated frequency range) a try and it was definitely a good thing. Ever since I've had zero issues.

I found that I had to increase the ClientModeCachedReadSize in config.xml to something pretty high like 65536 or 131072 for it to play smoothly. Otherwise, Live TV would stutter. I'm using streaming mode and the bitrates are the default.

I've got a lot of crap in the house that runs on the 2.4GHz range, so this is probably why my Live TV stutters in client mode (interference). I've got a Linksys WRT54GL router (using WPA-PSK AES) and on my computer with a corresponding Linksys wifi card, I only have to bump up the cache a little bit (probably because there are optimizations done between Linksys products). With my Dell 700m laptop with an Intel wifi card, I have to bump that cache even higher.

Ultimately, it all results in a delay of about five or ten seconds, but that's "live" enough for my purposes.

Edit: Note that I'm only using stuff recorded in SD. Not sure what HD stuff is like, although maybe bumping that cache size to a few megabytes (or maybe a few dozen megabytes) might help. Not sure if this will affect stability though.
