Ok, just to set the scene I have just gone from a 32 inch 4x3 CRT TV where I was using the svideo output as my primary monitor with the 4x3 TV using screen res of 800x600.

I have moved to a 16x9 LCD TV and I am now using the SVGA connector as my primary with the svideo disconnected and a screen res of 1280x720

The problem:

I am trying to watch the boxing and the hands and action is just moving too fast it is like instead of 25 fps (PAL) I am only seeing 12 fps not jerky as such but you miss some of the action. I have gone back to using the SKy source directly to the TV for now untill I can work out what is causing this issue.

Any suggestions of things I should setup/change in my settings would be really helpful.

I am using an ATI 9600pro if that helps anyone identify an issue.

Thanks

what version? what renderer? what mpeg decoder? what are you watching (recording or live TV)?

did this only occur when you switched TVs?

what other annoying questions can I ask?:p

Ok, so reversing your questions :p

I should check or try different renderers, mpeg decoder. Also might be worth droping back to GBPVR.exe 0.9x

To answer the easier questions:
  • ver = 1.016
  • renderer = system default ( )
  • mpeg decoder = VMR9
  • watching Live TV
  • cant recall watching boxing fastest sport would have been football prior to switching to 1.x version on SD TV.

Ok, for the renderer I have the choice of:
DScaler
Intervideo
Cyberlink
Nero

Any of these recommended over another?

Thanks

Also worth trying "PVRX2.exe -fse", which starts it in fullscreen exclusive mode.

no real recommendations, just use whatever works best for you (best quality/cpu load tradeoff) it is really a somewhat personal choice. personally I use purevideo, but whatever works well with your graphics card is probably the best bet.

and you might have the renderer and decoder mixed up in your answers Wink

I was asking about the renderer, because if you were previously using overlay, then you would probably see a performance hit using the new UI, since it doesnt allow overlay anymore

this is the reason lcd tv still suck(although this may niot be the problem here)
crt are more forgiving when you have settings wrong or not the right decoders

make sure the refresh rate of the card is 50hz 75hz i would also try 100 but some say this is bad its not that the lcd will actually display this its just that it matches the frequency of the pal

i would try the free mpv encoder which has been recomended lots seems to be pretty forgiving
i use nvidia pure video

update your driver for your video card to insure direct3d is working properly

pvrx2 only uses vmr custom and fse

also change those default settings at least then you know what you are using

The spec for the monitor at 1280x720 is 60Hz, the graphics card has a choice of 60, 75 or 85Hz I am currently set to 60Hz as it corresponds to the TV and PAL has a 60Hz varient. My logic could very well be flawed here welcome feedback.

I am trying the free decoder as suggested seems better quality I am now waiting for some fast action sport on TV to see if its improved. I have an ATI card so I presume I cant use the nvidia decoder.

I use the Omega drivers as they are normally better than ATI drivers.

Quote:pvrx2 only uses vmr custom and fse

Really? I thought PVRx2 used VMR9 and fse and not custom. nevermind as I have switched to fse as also suggested by sub.

Totally agree, I have had problems in the past with DVD playback after changing these settings, I have yet to test the DVD with the free decoder.

which settings are you using for the audio? decoder and renderer?

Thanks for all the suggestions it seems alot better after the changes so far.

[EDIT] I just noticed that the specs for the monitor is actually 1280x768 not 720 I have changed my grachics card to match and noticable improvement with the clarity of the OSD in particular.

Cheers

i only learnt what im about to tell you about 2 weeks ago i ahd it all wrong but after doing some reading i got a better understanding
the refresh rate of your tv cant be changed as it refering to the lcd screen they do not turn on and off like crt tvs do they are on always
so the refresh rate doesnt have to match that 60hz they can be totally different
the refresh of card is however important cause this has to be in multiples of 25 for pal so hence the 50 75 100hz

i think you can use the nvidia pure video decoder with any card
download the trial and see

Hi,

I will try the refresh rate and see it also helps though to be honest without a fast moving source I am unlikely to see any difference it is really very good now with the changes that have been made.

I will try the nvidia as I have now tested DVD and unfortunately it shows the menu but not the little pointer to select chapters, play, lang you get what I mean. so I need to look at alternatives.

Cheers

I'm guessing your TV is now progressive. Which deinterlacer are you using?
