Current setup:

AMD Sempron 1.6GHz
1GB RAM
PVR-150 w/ remote
Capture via S-video
GeForce 6200 (AGP) at 800x600
Component Out to Standard Def TV (CRT)
NVidia PureVideo Decoder
VMR9 Custom
Quartz.dll from DirectX9b

In just about everything I record, if there is a camera pan, I get a jerk/stutter in the video every second or so. Sometimes slight, sometimes drastic. The audio is fine. Is there anything that anyone can recommend I do in order to smooth out video playback, hardware- or software-wise?

what version? there is a possibility that your vid card is getting tearing.

if you are using GBPVR.exe, try switching to the overlay renderer

if you are using PVRX2.exe, try switching to VMR9 fullscreen exclusive.

that may help Smile

Not sure what "cam" refers to. Using 800x600 or 640x480 res.

Using GBPVR.exe. I'll try overlay. Thanks

Sounds like interlacing-problems to me. This should be done by the decoder automatically, but maybe it's failing. I'm using Dscaler for deinterlacing: http://www.dscaler.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=5407

Do I wanna do deinterlacing with a CRT TV? I thought the video was supposed to be interlaced by definition.

unless you are piping to something that knows exactly how to transmit the interlaced signal (eg PVR350) you will want to deinterlace. also, you will probably want to set your resolution as close as possible to the TV's. so that means trying to get it at 720x480 interlaced @ 60Hz. with ATI this is pretty easy (click the video mode button) but I think it is a bit more of a pain with NVIDIA (at least it was with any drivers I used).

Tipstir thought you were using a webcam Smile

update: i've messed with just about every combination of settings that i care to for now. i've tried all of the different VMR/Overlays with/out hardware acceleration. intervideo, cyberlink, and purevideo decoders. even though the pans are jerky, VMR9 custom w/ hardware acceleration on purevideo yields the best playback for sure. can anyone recommend a decoder comparable to purevideo that i might try, or is that as good as it gets, and i should try a better video card?

oh, and my CPU usage is only about 25-30% during playback, so thats not an issue.

purevideo is one of the best decoders out there, IMHO.

a beefier video card would probably help, but your need to try different things depends on how good your performance is with your current stuff (is it just ok, or does it look pretty good?)
