wintv 1600 HD playback!

I was about to purchase one of these. But I was wondering if my system would be able to play the hd video back without hickups. Check out my specs down below and tell me what you think. Also let me know if any of you have the tuner, or really any HD tuner and has the same or a system with similar specs and let me know how the video looks. Thanks.

Your video card is highly suspect, though the rest of the system looks capable. I doubt the card could playback HD well in Overlay mode, but if you're using pvrx2 in the latest version of gbpvr, VMR9 video mode is required and it requires even more video horsepower. You'll probably need a full Dx9 compatible card, and the 9200 is only fully Dx8 capable. You don't need a real expensive card though, so don't fret too much. If you decide to upgrade your card, be sure to search the forums first.

Well the other thing is is that I only have pci ports for adding any video cards. No pci express or agp. Its a crappy emachine that they took all those out for some reason. So that 9200 was the fastest I could find at the time that had a pci connection, it does have 256 megs of ram in the card though.

All the ones I found for that are PCI express. You know of a PCI only one? send me a link if you know please. The 9250 I use is the fastest I have found that has PCI. hmmmmmmm

Actually I found a visiontek version of this card that is PCI and they said in a review of it it would not play HD that well at all. Lots of frame skips and crashes. Its about half as fast as a PCI-e of the same type. So I think a new MB and Graphics card might be in the mix for me.

You what is pretty funny. I have don't actually have the 9250 card in there now its just on the on board graphics. And the HD plays back awesome. I can't get the sound to work and will post in another forum. But I am going to put the 9250 in there and see if it helps. My computer does run at 100 when playing HD though.

Is it the AC3 audio that's a problem for you? I've had trouble getting NVidia's PureVideo audio decoder to work properly in gbpvr, but installing and using AC3Filter works perfectly. It's free - give it a try if you haven't.
