Sub-Directories

I'm adding this to the wish list as I don't think there is a way to do this.

I've noticed after recording for several years that now I have about 300 GB of programs. My program list of recordings is many pages long now. What I would like to be able to do is to make a directory and move the recordings into one directory. For example: Kids programs, Christmas shows, game shows, etc. Is this possible or does it already exist? If not would this be something a plug-in could do?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have past 2TB of recordings, so I did what you suggest long time ago...

What you need i the VideoArchive plugin. It allows you to move the files using your favourit file explorer (normal drag'n'drop), and it will read all the directories and even map the recordings to the original descriptions from the TV guide.

Does other neat things as well, as for instance allowing you to buy another 300GB drive and move recordings there. It will transparently display all your recordings across disks. Prior to going to a large RAID drive I had recordings spanned on six different drives with no problems. And you kan navigate using the letters on the number keys in stead of going 15 pages down. And... and... and...

I think what Mr. Camaro is asking for is exactly the same thing I was going to post about in this forum after sub got back home That is to be able to move the recording in the database into a sub category (not the actual file). I would really Really REALLY like to be able to select sub categories as I am setting up recordings ie. when I am recording a movie select a sub category like "movies" & even better a sub sub category like sci-fi.

Yes this what I'm talking about. I've been collecting programs for a while about a research item that I have been studying. I've recorded several different programs on the subject. But they all have different program names and they are spread out all over the place in the recordings directory. It would be nice to have them in one sub category.

On the other post above. I have been using Video Archive since I have 2 drives in the machine I move stuff over with it. But like Jaggy said this isn't exactly what I want to do.

Fair enough Moving the files into a Kids Show folder under the Recordings folder would be a workaround that would have a very similar effect though

I didn't have Video Archive installed on the latest GBPVR build. So I installed it again. It didn't seem to be working right. There was only a few recordings listed instead of the full list. Maybe I screwed something up by not having it installed and then installing it again.

I never played around with those options in the video archive but I think you are right it might do what I wanted.

I ended up getting what I wanted by editing the database with SQLiteSpy. I modified the Programme table. I put the name that I wanted the folder to be in the "name" column Example "Game Shows" then copied and pasted what was previously in the Name column into the "sub_title" column. This did exactly what I wanted. I know this is not the recommend way, as sub I think does not want us messing with the database, but it worked for me.

You need to install the "test version", which is poorly named since it is really the only supported version at them moment and the one that works with PVRX2. If you post the log files from your Jeff subdirectory I can also take a look.

It would be really great to create recording "pools". Instead of setting up a recording directory, you set up multiple directories with names. E.g. General, kids, dont miss etc. Then when you set the recording you set the pool to use. So the kids set the recording and use the "Kids" pool. This has a share so they can watch it remotely. I can record into "dads" pool and this doesn't have a share so the kids can't see it. The "don't miss" pool can be onto my RAID protected drive so I cant lose it. The "general" can be onto a normal disk. The "remote" pool can be onto my zip drive which I unplug in the morning and watch on the train. How cool would that be?

Views? Or did I miss this somewhere else?

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but thought I'd chip in with this....
Regarding keeping your files organised, in one place, and consistently, regardless of adding however many extra drives, check out Hardlink SHell Extension.
It allows me to always have only one access point (directory) to all my category folders, regardless of how many drives my collection resides on - because when a drive gets full, I can place a "junction" link to another folder on another drive. I can also have any file (video) in multiple category folders. It's kinda like making shortcuts, but its not a shortcut "file" - it's a transparent link, so all apps just think it's part of the file path. And because it's using a built-in feature of NTFS, it's useable for all apps.
