Is there a way in the config to have it use the remote differently when playing DVDs and ripped DVDs then when watching recorded shows? For example when I watch a ripped DVD on GBPVR and hit the skip button it does the usual skip forward of whatever it is (30 sec. I think). Is there a way to make it skip to the next scene or chapter instead?

Also, is there a button assigned for the Hauppague 45 button remote for choosing different sizes for you picture. When I watch live tv even though it should be in 16:9 I still get two small bars on the side. Not like what you would see if the picture was supposed to be in 4:3 but almost like it thinks the screen is smaller then it is. With DVDs and other things I don't have this problem.

Try setting <DVDChapterSkip>true</DVDChapterSkip> in config.xml

What capture device are you using?

Analog devices live the PVR150 mark all recordings as 4:3, so if you watching these recordings on a 16:9 screen, you'd expect to get black bars on the left and right.

umm the same recording on the other pc that uses mce doesn't show up that way. Shouldn't it depend on the show and whether that was broadcast in a certain format? Also, it doesn't look like 4:3 I see that from time to time and it's much larger black bars in this case they're smaller.

As far as I'm aware all analog devices always mark their MPEG2 streams as 4:3, which is usually the correct thing to do. I'm not aware of any 16:9 anamorphic analog transmissions in the US, or anywhere in the world for that matter. If you're receiving these from a set top box via composite/svideo/tuner, then these would have been letterboxed (or pan'n'scanned) to 4:3 by the set top box before sending it down the wire.

If it was letterbox, then you can of course press the F7 key until you get to the 'remote letterbox' setting. GB-PVR couldnt do this for you automatically, because the MPEG2 was reporting the video was 4:3 so GB-PVR would have no way to know it was really 16:9 embedded within a 4:3 frame created by your set top box.

With all this in mind, you find the aspect ratios still dont look quite right, you may find your decoder is also trying manage the aspect ratio which can lead to unpredictable results. For example, with the nvidia decoder you need to set the aspect ratio control to 'anamorphic' in the decoder properties otherwise it'll break GB-PVR's aspect ratio control.
