Observations from VA test version 2007-10-09

Hi Jeff.

Thank you for the recent update.

My observations from installing the test version from yesterday.

First run on MVP:
Only "What's new" populated on first run. Same issue when restarting the MVP.
Using "Down"-navigation from What's new resulted in the rest of the directories getting updated in previous version (if it was stuck). Not so this time.
Pressing GO resulted in long update process (20+ minutes)
Less aggressive on CPU usage. In stead of 100% its goes like shown in the attachment.
Memory usage looked good from the start, but then increased again up to normal 7-800MB
Regression: Some of my subdirectories only show a few recordings (e.g. example below). In fact, after approx. 20 minutes the recording list emptied completely.

Similar experience running from PVRX2, only with a more aggressive CPU usage.

A thing that I'm puzzled about. In the box below is an extract from one of the MVP-logs. It shows that it finds all 55 files, only mentions some in the logfile, and only show the bottom four in the MVP UI. :confused:

All in all - previous version worked better

Hi

I've recently re-visited Video Archive having used it very successfullt for a long time. Since switching to PVRX2 I had found VA troublesome. I could not get the updates to show the contents of the directories, sometimes the update would never complete (even after leaving it overnight) and items seemsed to be randomly classified as DVD or not, irrespective of the directory they were in ...

.... but ....

I've found a few things that helped :-

1. I deleted all the pending recordings. As far as I see they are held in exactly the same table in gbpvr.db3 as the one that Jeff uses to get info on completed recordings. Having removed all the pending ones (using enhanced web admin) , the update ran properly for Recordings.

2. I found a couple .mpg files in my movie directory that were zero bytes long. They seemed to cause the update to fail. I deleted those and now the update ran to completion.

3. I still had difficulty with files seeming to randomly be classified as DVDs or not. I went in to the videoarchive.db3 using an editor and changed the IsDVDDir or IsDVD fields in the relevant tables.

Having done all the above it all seems to work. I've updated to the most recent version today, just a done update, adding in another movie directory
and all still fine.


One other off feature I'd on is : I viewed a .avi file on my MVP earlier. This meant that gbpvr has to create a temporary transcoding file in my recorded TV directory (E:\Media\TV). The list in VA Recordings not has an entry marked E: through which I can drill down in to find the temporary mvp transcoded file. I do not have E:\Media or any of its subdirectories listed in the VA setup anywhere. Curious !
