I have a hard time to get the audio to work as I wish.

I wish for a checkbox in settings.exe where I can check 'Use spdif'.
Or a couple of them, as I gather that TV and DVD's often is handled differently.

After a short search on the forum, I can see that I'm not alone having audio problem...

A case study:

I had it working - sort of, before I reinstalled the comp with a clean OS. Sort of, because sometimes you didn't get any sound at all in GBpvr, And I had to use VLC or some other program that work (get's real low score on the wife-scale).

All I wish is for the sound to go through spdif and be used as 5.1 when it is and 2 channels in all other cases..

I have set up Power DVD to use spdif in it's settings and it works just as I want. But if I use 'Cyberlink' as in GBpvr I only get 2 channels through. Sad

OK, lets try ffdshow instead. I set aac and dts as spdif (that worked before) and ac3 on output, which worked on the old OS, not so now. No sound at all.

I have tried all combinations I can think of. If I get a picture, I only have 2 channel sound.

I had hoped to have a "clean" os this time. But now I'm finding myself installing more and more stuff to see if that will help getting the sound as I wish.

Since I dont distribute any decoders with GB-PVR, its not possible for me to add this sort of setting. I have no idea what decoder the user will have installed, and they all have different mechanisms to achieve this. If I was including a decoder with my install, ie knew what decoder would be used my the majority of users, then it would have been really easy to do this.

Well, I'm not loaded... But isn't it possible to add this support for one or a couple of well selected decoders?

There is a few reasons why I wont be doing this. Some decoders would have licensing issues with GB-PVR being non-GPL calling APIs on GPL decoders that run in-progress and would require GB-PVR to become opensource GPL, some other decoders nvidia etc require private APIs to be called but the details of those private APIs are only made available to licensees of said decoder. In reality if it would only work for a couple of decoders its probably better not to do it otherwise I'll just get piles of support posts asking why the 'use SPDIF' setting doesnt seem to be working.

The best I can probably do is put a button to view the audio decoder properties much like you can already do with the video decoder. This would make it a little easier for people.

i simply use ac3filter for all my audio, and it is passed via sp-dif to my external receiver, with no issues. perhaps cyberlink and ffdshow were the wrong choices?

I wish there was a commandline access to AC3filter though. I only turn on SPDIF if I am watching something on the projector and using the amp - as I get no sound on the TV with spdif working. (i was using a custom task to pop the ac3filter panel up, but these are not available in PVRX2)

What version of AC3filter were you trying?
What settings have you got?

What is the sound driver, and is that all set up for spdif output again?
