Hi!

Is the "WinTV-HVR-1800" supported by GBPVR?

What is the quality of this card, about analog capture?

Thanks!

Yes it is. There is a known issue with trying to use it for QAM digital cable, but this resolved in the next release.

... thanks !

I'm considering this card (1800, PCI-E) because my actual PVR-150 doesn't fit well in my setup (PCI placement).

Is the quality of the analog capture comparable to the PVR-150?

Sorry, I couldnt tell you that. I dont own a HVR1800 myself. It would be of no use to me here in New Zealand.

I read a review of the HVR-1600 and it was pointed out that it had better analog capture than the pvr-150, i believe that the hvr-1800 uses the analog components
(now for a shameless plug)
I use the avermedia m780 which is a pci express analog / atsc capture card
In the same review mentioned before the m780 was said to have better quality analog than the hvr-1600.
Also the m780 can be purchased off newegg for about 90 dollars the hvr-1600 is a bit more mabey 95
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6815100015
the only reason that I can see to purchase the hvr-1800 over the m780 is for qam support, granted qam support is there for the m780 but from what I have read about people using it there are some issues

. . . can you send me the link of this review?

Also, what is the support quality of the m780 in GBPVR (and in other softwares as MythTV and Mediaportal)?

Thanks!

The Review
http://www.missingremote.com/index.php?o...2&Itemid=1

Support
Currently there is no support for the m780 in Linux, "drivers" need to be written for some of the chips, I dont think that there is Linux support for the hvr-1600 and most likely the same for the hvr-1800 but it will be coming soon I would bet. The m780 should be supported by any windows dvr software, due to the bda drivers needed for digital and since it has a hardware mpeg encoder.

As far as in gbpvr the only problem people have had is with trying to do qam, it seemed that needed to load the avermedia software every time they rebooted up to initialize the card and then closed it before loading up gbpvr to record. If your only going to use it for atsc then there are no worries. One thing I should mention is, avermedia has new drivers out that change something in the way the filters are named so you need to use an older set of drivers. When I have some time I'm going to load up the new drivers and figure out what needs to be changed and submit it to sub. It could be possible that the new drivers fix the qam trouble to. Also there is nothing wrong with the current drivers that I notice relating to atsc and analog useage.
I can send you the older driver version if you decide to go with the m780
Happy hunting Smile

hi,
When is your next release due? Or has the issue been officially resolved in 1.2.9? I ask because I have this version installed but cannot get the QAM channels to come in. I've read the other threads on their fix but still not working for me. Thanks in advance.

It was fixed a while back, and working in the current 1.2.9 release.

If its not working for you, zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look.

thank you so much for such a very fast response. Once get this working I'll send $40 bucks your way.

Current setup:
Vista Ultimate 32bit
hvr-1800 Media Center Ediion (cable line directly connected for setup purposes)
Angel USB MPEG Device (from Dell, anaolg only, currently configured to work with Media Center)
Media Center is not configured to work with hvr-1800
WinTV was installed and QAM did work but didn't like so I un-installled it, but made sure drivers were updated from "hauppauge_cd_3.4D1"

Install process:
from config.exe I went to capture sources.
seleced digital recording plugin then clicked on settings.
I then select 'Only show devices..." and then selected 1800 MCE QAM. The one thing I've noticed, to the right of 'type' is 'ATSC', shouldn't this read QAM?
I then created an account wth schedules direct, updated the EPG.
Then I clicked on 'map digital channels to...' It then begins to scan the 138 channels and but finds none.

I'm trying to right-click on the 'logs' folder to winrar it but I get an error from winrar "cannot create logs.rar, access is denied' What do I have to do zip it? Do I have to disable User account control? I had to do this to install gbpvr. I then enabled it again.

just a theory, could it be that MC has control over the card? When I tried Sage TV I think I remember MC having problems, even though it was assnged to another tuner. I would have to re-install it to make sure. With GB-PVR I have no conflicts other than not picking up any channels.

As soon as I can figure how to zip this protected folder I will send you what you asked.

thanks again
