I was just investigating HDTV tuners for my MythTV setup and noticed what an uphill battle it is for the linux folks to support a lot of tuners out there that have native windows drivers. Then I noticed the HDHomeRun ethernet device, and it struck me that why wouldn't it be possible for someone like sub to code a plugin for myth, or some kind of tie in between myth and gbpvr, so you could leverage pro's cons of both systems. For one thing a linux build of his client, or something would be nice though I'm sure difficult to build if he's windows centric. But surely building some way for mythtv to use a Gbpvr backend for video capture emulating what an HDHomeRun can do via ethernet must be something possible? Just thinking out loud!

Sorry, but this unlikely to happen. I've done various linux development projects in the past. I quite like Linux on servers, but I'm not as interested in using it as a desktop or HTPC.

mvpmc is currently a linux client for gbpvr and it already compiles on most linux distros. No one has bothered porting the audio and video libraries, however but a client is entirely feasible. I personally have no interest in doing this since my focus is on silent and inexpensive extender options like the Hauppauge MediaMVP.

Do the D-Link range of media players work with GBPVR? I have 2 of these which I've never really been able to get working properly and wondered if I could use them with GBPVR.

Not natively, but you can set your media server software to point to your GB-PVR recording directory and viola! instant access to all your recordings.

I could have seen this as being a good fit for one of those small eee pcs from asus. I'm looking at one of these but have some reservations about putting xp on it and trying to make it into a pvrx2 client.

What ideally is needed is a lighter weight client, but not as lightweight as the mvpmc (all running off the server). Potentially the old gbpvr interface may be perfect.

But equally someone figuring out how to make mythtv talking to subs backend would be similar and could run on linux.
