i wonder what would happen if i went over there and asked if could have a viewer for windows
When playing around with MythTV (a while back) I made the mistake of simply asking for assistance with some settings...
Unless you like tar, feathers and thumb-screws, I wouldn't mention Windows at all!
yip that was my point but i was writing with a smile on my face
although have a look at xbmc i have played around with the windows version (nice eye candy)
i have never bothered with linux for the simple reason i actually like windows
why is it such a sin to like GBPVR but want a fast booting thin client. You will never get that with a windows client without going to some sort of solid state high priced machine. PCH and MVP are fine but have limited functionality and are limited in expantion to just what the manufacturers decide you need. With a thin linux client you cant have PVRX2 client, HULU, Netflix whatever you decide to load up. People act like it has to be one way or the other, no one is really even asking for a full linux server version, but a viewer would be really nice.

I don't think anyone does. If you want to write one I'd be happy to give you some pointers although be forewarned that 1080p HD compatible clients are pretty "heavy" on linux too and you will pretty much be stuck with an ION or better.

How thin is thin? My GBPVR client in the kitchen (see sig below) is physically small, as a PIII doesn't use too much power compared to modern rigs, cost about £50 and although it's running a full copy of XP it is set just to come in and out of S3 standby so 'boots' instantly.
I use windows cos I always have and know it well, and I've played a enough with linux (and macs) just to see how the other half live so I genuinely don't care what OS is on my computers as long as it works - and for me this is already working with out needing support for additional OSs.

What's all this fuzz about quick booting? Who needs to boot every week? I have 7 computers working in my home an they all run 24/7/365, boots only when updating requires so...

I'm using S3 standby so it's not really booting. Trying to save the planet (and my wallet) by not having my computers on all the time.
