Apparently my weakness for my PVR has grown because I can't watch my recording as fast as it can record them. So, I have to put in a bigger hard drive. Is there a way to change out my recordings drive with a bigger drive and then put all the old shows on the new drive without loosing them or corrupting something?

Backup your gbpvr.db3 before you do anything. Next, set <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> in config.xml so that the recordings arent removed from the database if the files arent present in their normal locations.

Is the drive letter and directory going to be same when you replace the drive?

IIRC when I changed drive letter I did the following

1. backup
2. Export recordings in config (plugins tab)
3. Do find and replace on file generated to reflect the change in path
4. Import recordings in config

Perhaps a bit late. But as I see it you have two options (at least):

1) You backup as describet above, then you close Recording Service and copies everything on your drive to the new drive and assign the old drive-letter to your new drive. This is assuming you do not have your recordings directory on your system drive (which is a bad thing anyway). When this is done you can start the recording-service up again and you have more space to record in.

2) The start is the same as the first, you stop the Recording Service but instead of copying everything you just copies the recordings to the new drive and then mount the new disk as the recording Sub-directory.
As an example:
If you today have your recordings directory as E:\Video\Recordings yout simply copy everything that resides in the redcording directory to the new drive, rename the Recordings directory to something like Recordings_OLD and creates a new Recordings directory and mounts the new drive as E:\Video\Recordings
When you see that everything is OK you can delete the Recordings_OLD directory.

When I upgraded my drive a year ago I used the second way to do this. But as always, a fresh backup prior to fiddling with the system is a must.

Of Course there is always the option to leave everything as it is and just point the recordings directory to the new drive using the drive-letter it was assigned. This way you can still access the older recordings (when you change the recordings directory location in the Config App you can still access all old recordings. It just changes where new recordings are saved). Perhaps this is what you want?

a variation on the theme:

If you add your new drive as an "archive" drive, you can use video archive plugin to move recordings more than x days old from the old drive to the new drive and it can update the entry in the gbpvr database (if you want it to)

that way you keep your original drive for recording new shows and the big new drive to archive recordings that you want to keep or haven;t got around to watching yet.
