Can anyone explain how to configure GB (latest version) to record to DivX? I just replaced my older MVP units with the newer MVP 1000 units that supposedly can play DivX.

On GB's Config->Processing tab, I see Conversion Processing settings - they seem like they would be useful to convert from one format to another - after the recording has completed.

Using PVRX2 (or the GB menus on my MVP) I see a Transcode option listed on the recording options screen (entered from TV Guide). One of the Transcode choices is DivX. Exactly what happens if I change it from "No TRanscoding" to "DivX"? Will it record it directly as a DivX file? Does the Config->Processing settings interact with this Transcode at all?

Many TIA
-Mike

There is no difference in MVP units. I'm fairly sure they were always called MVP 1000s. No MVP can play Divx files natively. This hardware can only natively play MP3 music files and MPEG1/MPEG2 video files. When you try to play a divx file it has to try to on-the-fly transcode the file to MPEG2.

If you're using an MVP I recommend you just stick with MPEG2 files.

The application cannot recording directly to divx. It just records the native MPEG format produced by the capture devices. You have the option to convert to divx post recording if you want.

I guess I misunderstood the specs for the newest MVP unit. Here's what they state:

Plays MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and DivX recordings made with the Hauppauge WinTV with SoftPVR or WinTV-PVR's. Will also play most other MPEG-1/2 standard video files. Will also play most standard DivX movies*.

Maybe all of the DivX functionality they describe is handled by their PVR software?

I'm still unclear as to the difference between a recording's "Transcode" setting and the Config->Processing settings?

That just means they include software to do an on-the-fly conversion to MPEG2 for playback on the MVP.

This recording transcode setting was accidentally shown in 1.0.16, even though it was only something I was experimenting with (and not working). Its not shown in 1.1.5.

The idea was this was a per-recording way of specifying which transcode to do after recording vs the config->processing setting which applies to all recordings.

Actually, it does show in 1.1.5, if you change the Recording Type to something other than Record Once.

If you set <ShowTranscodeDuringSchedule>false</ShowTranscodeDuringSchedule> in config.xml, then you wont see it again.
