I have a 5.1 set of Creative Labs P5800 and want to extend the length of cable used by the 2 rear satellite speakers. What type of cable is required and is this even possible? I've attached a photo of the cable that comes off the speakers and into the sub-woofer.

Any help appreciated Smile

you just use an rca extender cable you may have to get some double ender female to female connectors for one end (the pic is a bit blurry im guyessing they are stnadard rca plugs)
the satellite speakers are low power so its fine

Is there a difference between RCA and phono cables? They look very similar.

yes the phono cable link you have above is actually a picture of a rca plug
http://jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=P...&SUBCATID=
this link shows a phono plug (what used to be on headphones now they have mini phono plugs )
the first picture you showed looked like a rca plug same as what would be on a the back of stereo amplifier line in etc

I'm not sure where rca came from is it an americanism!? Here in the uk we always used to call them phono. Is that from phonograph? My Father always called them phono. It must be an age division thing - I'd like to call them rca and be young and hip but its still a phono to me making me over the hill Rolleyes

and this is a 1/4" Mono Jack plug - not phono , the description is wrong !! Smile

just call them different names here than there so i will leave it at that Smile

ok i did some more searching things like this bug me i had to know what they were actually called
the plug i showed is actually called a ts= tip and sleeve if it was a stereo one it would be called a trs= tip ring and sleeve

in the UK though you are right they call them a jack plug
in the usa they are referred to as a phone plug as that is where they were forst used

Back to the one mcbainuk was actually asking about
RCA in america is trade mark radio corporation of america (bit like calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover where hoover is the brand name)
also referred to as a phono plug as they were originally used to connect a phonogram (ok i was wrong Smile doh again)

you learn something new everyday

Just to round the thread off, I bought these and they work perfectly. Time to test the surround sound with Saving Private Ryan on DVD Smile
