Earlier this week (I think on the 12th) I was setting up "season" recordings for the first time, had manually set recordings prior. Exploring through, I opened the first instance of CSI. Then, by mistake, instead of hitting the remote "back" button, I hit the "cancel" on screen, and of course the recording session went away.

So, I simply tried to set it up again. I went through the whole recording setup, and then when I hit "record" at the bottom, it takes me back the the EPG, but the selected show is not red. After several tries, I hit "Quick Record", and that worked, show now red.

Now move forward to the 13th. CSI is at 8:00. Around 10:00, I go to watch it, and gasp, it is not there. There are two very short recordings, one about 5 seconds, and one corrupt and a bit longer. Without a trace, same channel, recorded just fine at 9:00.

I am thinking (but don't really know) that perhaps something in the recordings database remained, at a higher priority, but not enough info to record. Thus, the "quick record" got bumped for the scrap left in the database at a higher priority, but nothing recorded. The 5 seconds could be at the very end, when the "priority" missing record let go, quick record took over, then immediately "Without A Trace" (season) kicked it back off. Just theorizing here.

I am putting in the logs of the recording program on the 13th (logs13.zip), as well as all of the logs form the 12th. I also just tried playing, at an unimportant timeslot, on the 14th, putting in a seasonal recording, then cancel it, then try to put it back in. Sam behavior. Could be that cancel only kills the single instance and not the season. How do you kill a season recording? But there was no error given, just would not change the block to red when I got through setting up season record and hit "record". Today's playing is posted as logs14.zip.

Thanks
Chuck

Oops. I think it was the 10th that I must have been setting up all the recordings.

You might just ignore the logs12 files. I don't see any PVRX2 files, and I am quite certain I used that to set up the recordings, not gbpvr. Perhaps the later runs delete the earlier log files. Wish I could remember exactly when I was doing those setups, probably Monday or Tuesday night. I replaced a video card Monday night, came back on warranty. Prior to that was using GBPVR because the MOBO video could not handle VRM9. So, I don't think any of the logs from when I was setting up the shows exist.

When you cancel a recording from the TV Guide, it is only cancelling a specific episode, not the entire season.

It remembers if you've delete individual episodes of a season recording so that they dont automatically get rescheduled each night when it updates the EPG... otherwise you'd be complaining that you cant cancel a specific recording since it rescheduling.

Go into your recording screen. View the 'recurring' list. Cancel your season recording for CSI. This will cancel the entire season, and any episodes marked as pending or cancelled, and remove them from the database. Now when you go in a recreate the CSI season recording in the tv guide it should pickup all episodes.

Would this be the cause of missing the show? I got it to turn red by using quick rec, but it did not record. Just got a few seconds at each end.

I'll do as you say, just wondering if there is a bug or if it worked as expected.

Thanks

The CSI recording on 13th of December looks ok in the logs to me. Looks like successfully lock a signal, created a file, and ran from 8:03pm - 9:00pm.

How big is the C:\Temp\CSI Crime Scene Investigation\CSI Crime Scene Investigation_20071213_20002100-1.dvr-ms file?

There are two files with that name, almost.

The first, without the -1, is 97,798kB, and has a time stamp of 7:58.
The second, with the -1, is only 1,416kB, with a time stamp of 9:00pm.

The second, smaller one, was about 4 seconds long, part of a commercial, and would play from within pvrx2. The first I could not get to play. I tried dropping them on to Media player, same results, the short one played, the longer one did nothing.

I tried to delete the short one to see if the long one would then play, but no luck.

It looks like you EPG update occurred a couple of minutes after that, then the recording service was restarted by someone/something, or your machine was rebooted (or did it by itself). I'm sure its somehow related to this.

Whilst it should be ok, I'd scheduling your EPG update to occur in the middle of the night or early morning - definitely not in the middle of primetime evening viewing/recording.

OK, thanks for looking. I'll take a look at the EPG schedule. I thought it had been later at night. It rebooted tonight because of a Microsoft update. I'll have to look at what time that is scheduled as well.

Thanks

Yup, got it.

MS Auto Updates were set to auto-install at 3:00am. But, the computer was asleep. It woke up for the recording, but then MS did its install and forced a reboot.

I changed to download but wait for me to manually install.

Thanks!
