Last night I was going through my planned recordings and noticed that one recording had been scheduled twice, with slightly differing start times. Is this a bug or does it come from an incorrect tv guide (xmltv)?

I have attached my logs. The recording is a recurring recording (weekly), titled:"KRO Detectives: Midsomer murders" and was scheduled for the 16th of January at the following times: 9.25 PM and 9.27 PM. I deleted the latter manually.

PS: In the logs I noticed the AvoidDuplicateRecordingsIfPossible: false. Could this have something to do with it?

I have had this once in a while too.
Do you have "complete epg reload" checked in config-capture sources?

Hans

Edit: I saw in your logs that you have that enabled, sorry should have looked first.

Yes, I have Complete EPG Reload checked.

Which xmltv grabber are you using? (since you're also in the Netherlands)

I use the download from xmltv.assies.info , i found the downloader through sheikyerbouti. I can send it to you if you want. It works very well and it only takes a few secs to update the epg.
I doubt however that the epg is to blame here. But you could check your epg-xml file to see if there are indeed 2 shows for those specifique times.

I know about this particular xmltv download. I was just wondering whether you and I would be using the same grabber, as this could be an indication that there is something wrong with the grabber. As far as I know, your download site uses a different grabber than I do, so this cannot be case. The problem could of course still be the tvgids.nl site, which is the source for both grabbers.

I did check the xmltv file and it contained only one entry. Unfortunately, I do not have the xmltv version of the previous days. If this problem occurs again, I will probably put in some effort to keep older versions for comparison.

I think it probably was scheduled on time x and then a few days later it was scheduled 5 mins later (or earlier whatever), then the empty epg must have failed somehow.

Of course you could try a manual empty-update epg in config-capture sources.

I still get the odd one of these in the UK when a program is re-scheduled a few minutes early or late. I'm not convinced that 'empty epg' always cancels a pending recording that subsequently changes times.

I too have this fairly regularly when program schedule times get changed.

The full EPG reload option in config clears most of the EPG but does not clear all pending recurring recordings (not on my system anyway). Clicking Empty EPG in config does the same - looking at the guide afterwards shows mostly "no show details" but some of the pending recurring recordings are still there with all details and highlighted in red.

A while ago a changed my setup slightly to use a script which ran the command lines to emptyepg, deletependingrecurring and updateepg and that seemed to solve the problem. I ran it for a month or two with no duplicated recordings. However I had some other problems with lots of recordings being stored with the wrong name, details and date (a recording of one show with the details of a completely different show on a different channel sometime in the future!) and others showing as "failed" when they actually hadn't so I reverted last week to the normal EPG update (with full reload) to see if that was related.

Now I'm back to having duplicated recordings (with slightly offset times) but the other failed or incorrectly named recordings problem has gone away. It's easier to delete a duplicate recording than try and find one that could be called anything so I'm leaving it as is for now.

I'd be interested to know if there's a workable solution to the duplicate recordings problem.

Cheers
Tony

I found the duplicates reduced to almost zero by appending /d7 to my xmltvgui grab scheduled task to limit the EPG to 7 days. They seem to do the schedule changes a week in advance and doing the above seems to just grab the latest schedule time.
