Maybe someone can help me...

I have tried a number of PVR apps in the past. Now that zap2it no longer operates for free, my whole thing is messed up.

I JUST want a simply way to record tv. I don't need a whole entertainment program. I just want something, hopefully with an EPG, that will let me click on the program and record.

I have a Hauppauge Roslyn, so I can't use the normal programs like DScaler or Wincap? These record the video, but no audio is picked up by my card. Everything has worked fine in the past when using these big all in one PVR programs.

I'd use GBPVR if I was "babied" through setting up the EPG.

Your easiest option is just to pay the few dollars required to get a years worth of listings from Schedules Direct or CT TV Listings. Both are very inexpensive and painless to setup.

You are suggesting pay the few extra dollars to make the EPG work in GBPVR? I could do that...

But its more a matter that I don't really need a big program. I won't ever watch LiveTV and just need something to record.

Heaps of people dont use live tv. I hardly ever do. I schedule the app to record lots of shows I like, then I watch them when I have time. My most heavily used screens would be the TV Guide, Recordings and Video Library screens.

If you dont want to see the 'live tv' or other menu options then you can disable them. Alternatively you could just use the web admin for scheduling recordings if you dont want a big fullscreen user interface.

But the entire application still is running if I am using the web interface.

No, only the recording service needs to be running if you use the web interface. It runs in the background to perform recordings at the specified times, update the epg, and to provide the web admin interface if its enabled. The biggest part of the application, the client, is only started if you run the GBPVR.exe or PVRX2.exe user interface.

If I did that I'd still need to pay for listings?

What is this: https://cttvlistings.net/

It shows a free 3 month plan exactly like zap2it.

If you want to use a TV Guide / EPG, then you have to get listings from somewhere. GB-PVR doesnt care if you paid for them or got them for free.

Yes, you should be able to use CT TV Listings with GB-PVR.

Can I ask a stupid question...

If CT TV provides free listings in a similar format/plan to what zap2it used to... why isn't this the popular method?

This free plan lasts for 3 months at a time and gives u listings up to 4 days in the future?

I think there is a few reasons.

- This option didnt appear until after the vast majority of users had already created their Schedules Direct accounts.

- A lot of people here have ATSC digital devices, and CT TV Listings doesnt provide OTA ATSC tv listings.

- A lot of people here are Canadian, and CT TV Listings doesnt provide listings for Canada.

- Also a lot of people want more than 4 days of listings

- Added hassle of having to renew every 3 months.

- Cheap to buy a years worth of listings.

etc...
