Is this possible to run comskip during timeshift mode? I looked around but was not able to find an answer. I hope there is a way, because that will remove commercials as they appear (given enough time). I tried to run comkip manually on buffered material, it worked fine, but gbpvr did not pickup commercial cuts as it does with ongoing recordings.

I use parrallel comskip with recordings, and it works perfect.

I have not played with it but you can have comskip run while it is recording. It is a check box in config. Will that work?

Recording is different from timeshifting. The box is checked, but comskip does not run during timeshifting.

nope, even if you run it, gbpvr won't skip them in timeshift mode, it doesn't look for the .txt file at all..
you could always record it and delete after..and if that box is checked it will work.Smile

But when you record and you watch during recording (with some delay) and have set
live_tv=1
then I assume GBPVR will pick up the info comskip generates during the recording.
Its not technically timeshifting but it does more or less the same.

That is correct. But I am surprised that Sub has not added this feature given the fact that the system can do it with pending recordings. Timeshifting is different, I usually use it without prior planning, and I do not necessarily want to record the whole show, I may just stop and go to another channel.

I have the "run during recording instead of after" box checked, but the commercail skipping never works until the recording is finished. The second the recording completes, commercial skipping automatically becomes available.

I just assumed that's how it worked.

Well, if you think about how comskip works, it is looking at certain values in the audio and video comparitively. If you are watching a show/movie, and comskip noticed a commercial, what would happen, it would have to pause your viewing, because it can't jump ahead if the broadcast hasn't come down the pipe. It doesn't know till it gets there if a commercial is starting or ending.

Yep. Watching with Timeshift, rather then watching a pending recording has an inherent, spontaneous, I want to watch it now.

Comskip would be useless, as you would have to sit through commercials anyway, because you can't skip ahead of real time...

If you want to watch timeshift, just press the record button of the remote. It starts a quick record and comskip runs (if you set to run in parallel)

Then go make some popcorn or a coffee (the length of time for one or two commerical breaks) and then start watching the show from the pending list.

I know it's not the spontaneous click and watch solution, but you can't travel forward and skip through commercials that aren't finished yet...

We even schedule recordings for programs we want to watch in realtime as we never are sure we can start watching in time.
And you may wonder how we watch when we are zapping on the couch, well, life is too short for that so the answer is, we don't Big Grin
