Is there a way to get musiclibrary2 to search and simply list tracks by folder name and contents? i.e. folder name left column, file names in right with extra info within top or bottom panes. Although the plugin is cleaver digging into mp3 file tags etc, not all mp3 files have complete info. embedded, or some tracks appear on more than one album or re-released in diffrent years. The result is duplicates and mp3s popping up numerous times. Fortunately my collection is not so out of order and I can do a good job to group tracks into album folders and remove tracks appearing more than once.

I don't think ML2 can do that. It's a id3-tag based application, so it will go with the info from the tags.

Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

htv is correct, unless the track doesn't have artist or title, it will attempt to use the read tags. Only on Artist empty or title empty do i consider the to be "no tag" and use the filename (but then it would show up as (Unknown) so wouldn't be viable.

I agree with Sam! Is this possible to add on the todo list?

I have all music sorted to my liking in folders, but the id3 tags is a mess (and the job fixing it, I do not want to think about it...).

It would be great if you could add the feature to show files and folders instead of using the db. If there is id3-tags, show them. But otherwise use file name.

I use the original Music library but it lacks a lot of functionality I would like to have. Things that ML2 have.

I have good order of my files and do not need or want the db, so i

I really don't think this will happen since it would change the whole structure of the program.

I.e. this progran populates the screens by looking at a database, not by looking at files.

The only potential way to do this would be to try and generate the artist and album information during a scan by looking at the directory structure.

I think that's good enough. That way I can control the process somehow.
In the meantime I will see how far I come with renaming tags... (found a tool that seems promising). Looking forward to a couple of boring weeks...

Have you come across ID3renamer. It will set your ID3 tags based on your libraries directory/filename structure.

I've found the godfather to be very powerfull: taging based on (parts of) directory & filenames and the ability to use scripting when the default functionality is not enought. It takes a while to get used to the tool, but when you do, it is very powerfull.

Here is one of the mirrors: http://mahopa.de/tgf/.
The 0.70 version is recommended, not the 0.71beta2

Same with Tag and Rename, Media Monkey has this ability as well.

I did mine, and use, Tag and Rename for most of my stuff.
