I have a Nova-S card which has been working fine. I also have a Technomate set top box that I used before getting the Nova-S.

Now, I tried to connect them together by connecting the Nova-S to the loop through of the Technomate, but it broke the Nova-S card. The Nova-S will did not tune, I rebooted and the PC will not boot (not even a bios splash screen) when the Nova-S is plugged in. Sad

Has anyone tried looping the connections like this?
Is this not a correct thing to do?
How should I connect them?

cheers

Keith

I my be wrong here but - I'm guessing the Nova-S is a satellite tuner and the Technomate is as well?? If not then ignore the gibberish below.

What is the loopthrough from the technomate? I can't see it being a satellite passthrough as there would be no way to switch horiz/vert.

I think you should have a dual/quad LNB on the disk and separate cables for each satellite tuner.

Satellite tuners send voltage and switching up the cable to power the LNB, connectiong this to a another tuner [may] have zapped it??

Thanks Martin

Your right. I didn't really think about the LNB end, I just assumed that the loop out on the sat box can be used like the loop through on a VCR but really the LNB is being driven by the signal from the sat box causing a conflict between the Nova-S and sat box.

Do you know if it is possible to still have one LNB, one cable and do the switching at the set top box end? I'm just thinking something simple like a remote controlled cable switch so I can just select between the two places I want the signal to go to.

cheers

I'd have thought that a two way coax relay would work ok. But beware of the prices of them.
I've just bought a quad LNB from ebay for four quid, so they're cheap, it's just the cabling.

Yep - even though routing the cable is going to be a pain it will give me more flexibility. I'll have a look on ebay too Smile

I use this
http://www.globalcom.co.uk/accesories/sps1.html
But you have to be aware that you can't use both receivers at the same time unless the programs use the same polarity
I use this to keep my old Sky receiver active when GBPVR is in standby and I just want to zap
Pundit-R with XP pro
1900 IGP for video
P IV 3GHz
1 GB memory with 128MB dedicated to display
PVR350
Nova-S plus
GBPVR 1.3.11 running PVRX2 in FSE mode
Cyberlink codec
HDX1000 NMT (not yet using GBPVR interface)

That switch looks ideal - I may probably go with a dual LNB though as its is a little more flexible in that I can have the pvr recording a completely different channel to the stb.

Thanks for your help.

BTW - Haupauge emailed me back and said that I have probably killed the card and it has to connect direct to the LNB - the instructions don't say that so I'm sending it back Smile
