folks,

I'm just not able to get good recording from my new Nova t 500.

When I record a program via the NOVA, it appears to work but during playback it jumps... I've tried on three different machines so it's the files not the GBPVR machine (which it also jumps during playback).

By jumping. I mean I start watching a show at 0.00 time index and it plays for say 50 secs. and jumps to 4.32 time index. this will continue several times. until I get feed up.

I've running XP with SP2, Hauppauge drivers from 4.0 CD. and GBPVR 1.1.15 so I should be good to go.

I've installed the MUX from cyberlink build 5.0.1307, I originally had 1271 from PowerProducer installed but this also displayed the same error (but worse)

I've check via the MUX Checker and this is the only MUX installed. and Config is set to cyberlink so it should be working ok.

This machine also have a PVR350 which it records seamlessly... so the family are happy it's just my TV shows which are crappy !

HELP!!!

Does the Nova-T 500 work OK on Live TV?

If you do 2 simultaneous recordings on the Nova, do they both show the problem?

Try the tool from http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=12082 and after you've done a scan to find what frequencies are on in your area do a scrolling (7) on the frequency that you are having troubles with.

For me the Highest mux for channel 5 is way high at 850MHz and gives problems when it is windy or wet. Compared to the other channels lower in the band that are 100% quality and 50 to 60 for strength.

Also try it on both tuners as there have been cases of one being a bit deaf.

Remember your PVR350 just gets a little noise when the signal drops - digital drops out. The logs may show something as well.

Single Frequency Signal Statistics
Enter Frequency (KHz):850000
Enter Bandwidth (MHz):8

Press any key to end statistics and return to main menu...

# locking 850000, 8
# signal locked = Y present = Y strength = 44 quality = 80
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 90%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 100%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 90%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 100%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 44 Quality = 80%
Locked = Y Present = Y Strength = 43 Quality = 90%

I get this problem as well, perhaps more so recently.

The dvr-ms format (.ts) is less prone to this probem think but can give FF/RW problems IIRC.

I have been playing with PCI latency tool to increase the latency of the Nov-t (appear as VIA USB controllers) from default to 96. I am trying 128 atm. I think this has helped but I can;t be sure. Something to consider.

As martin suggested, signal strength could be your problem, especially out there in the boonies ;-). Also, I guess you are splitting your aerial between the 350, nova-t, tv and maybe another device. This weakens the signal, more so if you do not have good cables and connectors. Maybe do an experiment with just the nova-t connected directly to the aerial.

good question.... I'll have to sit and watch live TV... I'd not tried that...

I'll report back...

I've just had a brand new aerial fitted and it drives the Nova 500 directly, the PVR350 is driven from the Sky box.... I'd originally planned to connect the aerial to sky box and then into the NOVA 500 T.

Signal strength... I've got 'loads' according to the bloke who fitted the aerial.

Thanks Martin123, I've give this a try when I'm at home this weekend....

I'm guessing this is sample output from the tool...

The reason I ask is because Live TV will normally use your last tuner which is probably Nova tuner 2 and recording uses the first which is possibly Nova tuner 1 and as martin123 says
Quote:there have been cases of one being a bit deaf
I had one of them last year.

You need to do two recordings at the same time to test recordings on tuner 2.

As far as signal quality is concerned, the tool suggested by martin123 lets you see what the quality is at each of the tuners.

As gEd suggested, your antenna is important - I had all sorts of problems until I (like you) had a new one installed.

Also, if you go here and select your transmitter, you can find out if there are any technical problems

This is what I do - Sky box downstairs, shack upstairs. RF2 from Sky box up to shack and 4 way amplified splitter - pvr150 and a couple of nova-t-500's. Digi-eye back down for channel changing.

thats basically my planned implementation,

Ariel -> sky box -> 4 way splitter -> PVR350
->NovaT500
->Bedroom TV with Sky Digi-eye
->Playroom with Sky Digi-eye

Ok So some feedback

Both Tuners look ok to me... I'm getting good picture in Live TV. the 15 minutes I watched, I saw only one picture break up and it was only minor which is nothing like what I'm seeing during a recording.

I've included the output from the hauppague tool but I think it's ok.... which I think is pointing towards my software config but your the experts....
