I've been using the ATI mpeg mux and have run into some problems with my recordings stuttering. Some of them play back fine, but others stutter continually (recorded off the same channel). VLC plays back all the video smoothly, but without any audio (even if the audio works fine in PVRX2). Reading on the forum, it seems that the DVR-MS mux might provide better results. Is that the case, and if so, is there any way to repair the recordings I have already? The ATI video decoder helped my analog playback a lot, so I changed the mux at the same time. I've tried switching my audio decoder to AC3Filter, MPEG audio, and InterVideo with no change.

Also, I've run into the issue of having the audio de-sync from time to time, usually with live analog TV. Changing channels and switching back usually fixes it, but is there a way to avoid it in the first place? Thanks.

Specs: Win XP Pro SP2, HVR-1600, GeForce 8500, Pentium D 925 3.75 GHz (OC from 3.0), 2 GB DDR2-800, XFX 680i LT motherboard.

I'm not in the US so have only limited exposure to ATSC, but from what I've read the DVR-MS does perform best with the highdef ATSC channels. All I can recommend is that you take the time to perform a few tests yourself to try it out.

This type of thing normally relates to the combination of audio/video decoder you're using. Try a different combination.

I had a comparable problem with my QAM recordings from my HVR-1600, see here. The ATI mux seems really to be crap.

I solve this by recording in .ts and letting my PostProcessing.bat de/re-mux that recording into .mpg . If you are interested I can post that batch file here.

Well, the above is true for 720p recordings - they look fine. I just tried my first real HD channel recording (1080i) and the recording is very choppy and the demuxer (ProjectX) complains a lot. I don't know if my system is not powerful enough or if the muxer is to blame.

The ATI Mux fixes my sync problem but half the time seems to corrupt the entire audio stream somehow, similar to how you mentioned. It fixed all the problems for around two weeks and then, bam, suddenly started to corrupt audio and due to the corrupt audio make files glitch. And then after a full reformat of Windows it did the same thing but right away. At first it only did it once a week on the same program: "Back to You" on ABC or CBS. Was the weirdest thing.

Play a file in VLC and if no audio see if the audio setting up top in the tabs says 5.1. If so, put it on stereo and see if you get sound. You may be able to at least watch them this way, and maybe even re-record them via VLC. I didn't have much luck finding anything else that could even play those corrupt files.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:
