I have had my GB-PVR and MVP running great for the last couple of years, but a glitch in my old computer forced me to upgrade so I built a new computer with an MSI-K9MM-V motherboard, Nvidia 6200 AGP 256Mb video and a PVR-150 tuner.

When I put everything together I got the GB-PVR interface through the MVP and such things as the TV Guide, Weather, etc were OK, but the video just wouldn't come up.

Fearing that it might be a new network problem with the new machine, I loaded the MVP interface and all the video ran fine and looked great, but still "no joy" with the GB-PVR.

I have changed decoders/encoders (Cyberlink and Nvidia) and all else. I can get video to play with the MVP Service running, but you then can't stop the video without having to reboot... the "stop" button stops, but doesn't return me to menus.

SO... this may be as common as rain, but I'm at a loss as to things to try. PS... changed versions of GB-PVR... wiped everything clean and re-installed, but no change.

The most common cause of this is the Windows firewall getting in the way. Enabling network access for PVRX2.exe solves the problem.

I have checked to see that PVRX2.exe is enabled. It is as well as gbpvr.exe.

The only way I'm getting video is when the MVPMediaSVC is running... I'm presuming it is actually running the video and using the GB-PVR commands are just frustrating it.

When I shut down MVPMediaSVC and Restart GB-PVR Recording Service, I get no video at all.

SO... I'm still open to suggestions!!!

Make sure MVPMediaSvc is stopped, then restart the recording server. Next reproduce the problem and zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

OK... I have a solution, but I'm not SURE how I got there... exactly. I have been running the PVRX2.exe on the desktop to check recordings were doing OK. But I knew the GBPVR.exe is a smaller (thin) interface and I wanted to do a quick check.

Anyway... After I check my desktop, I walked upstars and saw the GBPVR interface. Checked out the keys and WOW everything worked!

I don't know what the THIN interface works better... I'm running a faster machine, but I can live with it if it works... like other things... I'd rather have one that works rather than one that looks good.

Now... I am presuming that running the GBPVR brought up a seperate server (since I now have a box (haven't seen this one in quite a while)... This process acts as a server for the Hauppauge MediaMVP. Closing this window will shut down GB-PVR on the MediaMVP.

The PVRX2.exe starts with the tray icon. Does the GBPVR.exe also start with the tray icon, or will I need to place a shortcut in the Startup folder?

Anyone want to venture a guess at why the PVRX2.exe isn't running correctly since I have had it running successfully on the previous (slower AMD 3200 vs. new AMD 3800+)?

Thanks... I can live with this now if I have to... as long as I can schedule and watch my shows!

To be honest, its a little hard to follow the information you've tried to supply here.

Running GBPVR.exe on your PC is going to have no effect on which interface is used on the MVP. It always uses PVRX2.exe on the MVP (unless you manually edited the <MVPServer> setting in the config.xml file). Running GBPVR.exe on your desktop doesnt start an MVP server.

I'm sure you're probably seeing the newer PVRX2 interface on your MVP, but not recognising it.

OK... let me see if I can make some sense.

When starting the GBPVR.exe file in the Program Files, I see an interface that is a muted blue with the options boardered (C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin\Blue).

When starting the PVRX2.exe, I see an interface that is a sharper blue with the options animated when selected (C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin2\blue).

I'm not sure how I restarted the MVP, but after starting the GBPVR.exe, I got a screen box with the message... "This process acts as a server for the Hauppauge MediaMVP. Closing this window will shut down GB-PVR on the MediaMVP."

As long as this was running, I saw the same type skin on the TV through the MVP as I did on my computer (C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin\Blue). When I rebooted the computer I have only the GBPVR tray, the MVP image is the newer PVRX2 image... and the videos don't work.

For whatever reason, the older interface allowed the videos to work and the remote keys functioned correctly.

Can you tell me how to start the gbpvr.exe instead of the pvrx2.exe when the computer starts?

Zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look what is happening.

I'm absolutely sure this is just your firewall getting in the way. Your logs will tell me.

OK... I hope I have this correctly with the attachment. I found one file I couldn't include in the zip... some error. I really hope you can dicipher this problem.

I am using AVG anti-virus with firewall. I have checked and PVRX2.exe is allowed. Are there any other files necessary?
