The idea is that you have a menu of channel groups/types. When you select one, you then get the TV guide for that group.

For example, on my Sky box, you get a menu with options such as Kids, Movies, News etc. You select one of these and you then get the associated channel listings. It makes it significantly easier when you have a lot of channels.

You could also have the option to add a parental lock to a group.

TV listings kind of does this but not that well.

XGuide can define multiple guides in the config program and you select the active one using the yellow button (Ctrl-Y).

The TV Listings plugin allows you to define multiple guides. Hit the guide button another time and ya just go to the next guide.

Easy enough for a plugin developer to do but where would you get the group/type category data from?

Sky can do it because they dictate the specs of their own STBs and can transmit any 'private' data over their streams that the STBs will react to. This sort of stuff isn't available for analogue or digital terrestrial in the UK.

It's possible that, in the future, DVB-T channels could carry channel category information (and probably will) but at the moment you'd need to put together and maintain some sort of list / DB to handle that. If you're talking about feeding the output of your Sky box into a cap. source in GB-PVR, the same would apply as any data that Sky transmits would be lost in the feed.

Cheers,
Brian
