I just upgraded to the new version (1.1.5) after not having touched GBPVR in awhile. I am getting just a black screen when I select the TV show I want to watch. Recorded videos display fine, and Hauppauge WinTV app plays fine. I have a HVR1600.

I noticed this error in the logs (when I attempt to play LiveTV):
2008-02-24 21:16:48.686 VERBOSE [1] About to play LiveTV File: C:\Users\kent\Videos\Temp\Dirty Jobs_5_20080224_21002200-2.mpg Channel: 2 DSC

If you enable live preview mode does it work (misc tab of config app)?

I'm guessing the recording service, which runs as a different user account, is able to write to your C:\Users\kent directory.

That was it -- changed from Local System to my user account, and it was fine.

I get black screen as well.
I'm going through the forum and the wiki as I set up a Proof of concept box to show my family that "It's ok... It's ok... there there... we can cancel our Bell ExpressVu" lol

Granted, i have only an ati radeon 7000. but other specs are above minimum recomendations. I have a HVR1600 and win tv brings in CBS from detroit although choppy (don't have final antenna yet). But in GB-PVR i get only sound for that channel in Live TV, black screen.

any thoughts?

What video decoder do you have selected on the playback tab of the config app?

Reproduce the problem then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

There is no chance this video card will do high def, but should be ok for standard definition.

Listed under video decoder i have:

System Default
intervideo noncss
HCW mpeg 2 video decoder
Mpeg decoder.

Audio only worked under "System default". But since i changed it to try all the others, i have no audio. But i suspect it's my signal strength.

about my video card, Do you mean that there is no way a HD station will appear in GB-PVR at all with this card, or that it will show up but can't be considered HD.
In the WinTV app, it does show CBS from detroit, but i know my signal strength is causing the frame rate to drop and sometimes audio.

I'm looking at the agp ATI radeon x1600 which is a 256mb card with some type of actual HDTV out.. (my backup plan will use the dvi or vga out) my tv is capable of a 1920x1080 resolution. (Samsung DLP RP 50")

Try installing these decoders:

The stations will show up, but the card doesnt have the bandwidth to handle highdef content so I cant imagine you getting anything better than a stuttering mess on a highdef channels. Most people say for highdef you need a ATI 9600 or higher, or nvidia 6600 or higher.

Those codecs worked. I assume they are doing with software what a better video card would do for me with hardware.

I got the video to look a little better, by decreasing the colours from 32bit to 16bit just for test purposes.

thanks.
