Hi,

I'm having trouble getting GBPVR 1.2.9 to install - it comes up with an error immediately after clicking next on the first page.

Seemingly relevant sections of the install log:

I've had GBPVR 1.1.5 installed but uninstalled it after first receiving the error.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Anthony

I am getting an error too. The installer just says "Installation ended prematurely because of an error." This is on Vista if that makes any difference. I've never had a problem with any previous versions.

My error was also on Vista. Have you tried if GBPVR works anyway, because it does for me.

1.2.9 won't install on my machine either, running XP. The installer rolls back after seeming installing system registry values. I then get a Fatal Error dialogue box that says 'Installation ended prematurely because of an error'.

I stopped the recording service before trying to upgrade, also backed up config.xml and gbpvr.db3.

The same thing happened to me too on WinXP Pro. I had stopped the service first, though I did not uninstall the previous version (1.1.5). But after the installation of 1.2.9 aborted, it at least reverted back to 1.1.5 OK, so I will wait until it is fixed before trying again.

Initially, I thought I was one of the lucky ones. I changed the number of MVP servers to 0 and checked task manager to make sure all incidents of anything gbpvr-related were turned off. It seemed to install without error (although half way through you get the config panel and thinking it was done, I reset the mvps to 1 with the result that I got an error after the install was complete and as I was rebooting the computer).

As I was trying out the new features, I found that I could not access "settings" - I get an windows error and it crashes the program. So I decided to repair the installation. That is when I got the error on installing (It started the install and then rolled itself back noting that it had encountered an error). Not to be thwarted, I then chose the option to modify the program and allowed it to reinstall all the elements. This time it worked (i.e., no error messages) except that any attempt to use the settings option will crash the program.

I can live with this for now (I have deselected the plugin settings) but I thought I would post in case it gives someone a better idea of where the error is originating from. It may be my imagination but I think the picture is clearer.

The old version of GBPVR works fine. 1.2.9 just doesn't install at all--it never even starts to install any files.

I tried running procmon to see if there was a file or registry permission problem but there weren't any obvious errors. Maybe I'll try rebooting and see if the install works any better after that.

UPDATE: Reboot didn't help.

UPDATE 2: I finally got it to work. Something about the UI of the installer isn't working for me. I was able to get the install to run by running "GBPVR10209.msi /passive" which runs without user input.

Thanks heaps, that worked (fixes 'the installation ended prematurely')!

I'm also running vista, I have hauppauge wintv installed if that is any help.

Thanks, this fixed the install on my Vista 32bit.

I also had problems initially when installing on my Vista machine. Installed with /passive and all working fine now. Thanks for the hint.
