as per here - same happens in standard blue skin, pretty sure it used to show icons too
logs attached... these are from the client machine, not sure if it'll matter - can put up server logs if required.

yeah, im not sure what happened - noticed it on both server + client, checked client before and it was still doing it, went to watch something straight off the server + the chan icons were there - so i just copied the skin, skin2 + media folders straight over to the client + all the channel icons came up. Very weird - maybe something to do with the xml file??? i reloaded the epg after i did the update but it didnt seem to make a difference, perhaps downloading a new one + updating overnight did the trick. Either way, fixed now... but odd!
