Has anybody heard of this little FREE DVD software?

I don't think that you can rip encrypted dvds with autoGK alone can you?

It does create great looking xvid files around with 2 pass encoding.

I've heard of it but I use DVDDecrypter to get the files off of the DVD before using AutoGK to convert it to an .avi file. Saves lots of room on the disk when storing DVD movies but sometimes I like to keep the whole DVD on disk for the extra features. All in all its a pretty nice free app.

AutoGK is a fantastic program. I've got 100+ movies and dozens of TV episodes on my home media server all converted with it. For dvd rips my preference is Xvid+AC3 since I prefer 6 channel sound and MP3 doesn't save much regarding filesize.

Some tips. Hit ctrl+F9 to open a 'hidden' options window with lots of tweaks. Ctrl+F11 will get you an advanced audio options menu. For reference, I convert most movies to a 1GB filesize and find the quality excellent. For longer films or lower quality dvds I bump up the size in 50-100MB increments. The quality encoding method in 1-pass only, fyi.

You are correct. AutoGK does not rip or decrypt dvds. Rip first using DVDFabHDDecrypter (recommend Main Movie mode for dvd films) or the venerable DVDDecrypter (no longer developed).

I think AutoGK is very good too. However it not suitable for the latest MP4/MKV compression. I recently being playing about with RipBot

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127611

I am trying to make the compressed files take advantage of the ATI hardware decoding on 2xxx and 3xxx graphics cards.

One think I very much like about RipBot is that you can set it to low priority and it doesn't interfere with GBPVR at all. I find this pretty handy especially when it takes about 5 times as long to encode a movie.

Very nice, I was looking for a DVD to H.264 tool (Does it read off a DVD?). All the ones I have tried have sucked majorly - these just wouldn't read off the DVD (unencrypted).Either AutoGK or pocketdivxencoder in concert with AnyDVD to backup DVDs. AnyDVD will remove all the protection, and either two compress.

I'm also not a fan of 2 pass - a 2 hour DVD can take almost 4.5 hours because of 2 pass.

Bathman, what H.264 decoder do you use that can do HA on ATI HD3x00? I've been using CoreAVC (software only) because I can't find anything else. Please don't tell me elecard because I can't get it to install and it looks like I have to pay for it.

I have beeen using PowerDVD 7. I am pretty sure that you can get this free with the K-kite codec pack (dont install any of the other rubbish that comes with it mind you). I would add that I have not managed to get MKV files playing back with graphics card assistance. I have not tested it with mpg4 files made in RipBot as my ATI3450 is now in my dads PC. I certainly did get downloaded mp4 files to play using the onboard hardware acceleration.

I can get HA to work in WMP11 but never in GB-PVR. There's an HA test app call DXVAChecker and it has a menu to actually play the video and monitor the frames per sec and CPU%, and it shows up good in there with VMR9. However, in GB-PVR it won't HA for some reason. I had it working just barely, but it looked horrendous (I had to force it to deinterlace in BOB only and screw around with a bunch of settings in CCC). My issue is because it's the new IGP board from ATI and the drivers are immature (at least that's what I think it is).

Would you happen to know what the .ax file is called that handles that in Cyberlink? The mpeg2 one from the is something like CLSVD.ax, but I don't know what the H264 one is.

I autoGK daily to compress my recordings for archival. It's great for my simplest projects, but its auto cropping sometimes leaves something to be desired. It also doesn't let you tweak codec settings.

When I need something that's a little less plug and play, I use mediacoder. Very nice manual cropper, even better than xmpeg's. And it gives you access to most of the codec settings in a very nice little gui. It's not 1.0 yet, but I'm loving it so far.

And yeah, you need something extra for any ripping. DVD Decrypter is still serving most people's needs, despite development having been shut down. It's progeny, ImgBurn, is also a nice piece of software.
