Lately my wife got terribly frustrated by having too many remote control buttons to press when using gbpvr.

I then installed HIP and added the ability to send the required RC commands (on/off/stereo from PC, dolby digital from TV, etc) to my receiver as a side effect when switching GBPVR to its various states using the direct control keys
This however is not fool proof (no pun intended) because when using the menu to maneuver to the music/video playback the receiver remains in the same decoding mode.
I looked at the plugins to see if there was a way to link the sending of RC commands using HIPsend to state changes in GBPVR but that would require events that signal when PVRX2 enters the MusicLibrary, Recorded TV, Live TV and Movie Library and I do not see them.
Of course they do exist and I just did not search enough.
Is there someone who can give me a pointer where to look?

So the only possibility is to read in real-time the log file and use that info?

I'm not sure you could even get it from the logs, since there is no log message to identify a screen has been activated.

Plugins can get notification that audio or video playback has just started, but thats probably too late for you since changing inputs would probably interfere with the first few seconds of playback.

Indeed, missing the first seconds is not what I would like, however its only for the first playback you start if its in the wrong mode so worst case its better then nothing.

When logging is set to verbose there seem to be enough clues in the log file to find out in which screen PVRX2 is (Music Library, Video Library, Recordings)
But this info is of course also "Late" due to file writing and reading loop with timeout

Have to think about how to proceed.

I've added a new event for the next release which let plugins know what screen name has just been activated. Hopefully that will help.

I'm hoping to get a new 1.2.x release out in the next two weeks. Not too many new changes, but rolls in a lot of the patches I've posted since 1.2.9.

Fantastic!
I will make a small plugin to use this for controlling a Receiver in a very generic way, basically a tweaked iMon
Have to sharpen my C# skills Smile

Its working!
Wonderfull.
The WAF is certainly improving.

All required functions of the receiver are now controlled through the Hauppaugge remote using HIP, a small serial send program and a modified iMonVFD that switches the receiver to the required state instead of displaying on a LCD

Still one remote to get rid of, and that is only used for changing the aspect ratio on the TV
if only XP/EVR and ffdshow could remove the blackbars, but then, what do to if all problems where solved, I had to look for a new hobby Big Grin

Thanks sub!
