I just bought a new Toshiba laptop with 1 gb memory. I bought a new 1gb memory to bring it to 2gb. Before I opened the package, I noticed that it's a PC2-5300 DDR2. The computer has PC-5300.
Question: Can I use the PC2-5300 along with the PC-5300?
Thanks in advance.

If your laptop is new then I'm fairly sure that it uses ddr2 and I have never seen 5300 speed for regular ddr1 so I would say that somebody messed up the nomenclature when typing up the specs of the memory or the laptop. If you list the model of your laptop I can take a look for sure

Bogyver is correct, DDR tops out at PC-3200, DDR2 is from PC2-3200+

Edit: Your laptop uses
PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM

PC-5300 and PC2-5300 are the same thing. I've seen it written both ways.

You guys are great. Thanks.
I have to mention the deal I got at Best Buy - $429 for a Toshiba laptop with 1gb/160G HD and Vista Home Premium. Add $28 for a 1 gb memory on sale at Circuit City and I have a 2g/160HD with Vista Home Premium for less than $460.
I just got it for surfing the web & email so it's all I need.

I assumed that there would be one 1gb memory card in it. Turns out there are two 512mb cards. Since there are only two slots, I either have to replace one and settle for 1.5gb, or return the 1gb for a 2gb.
It's never easy!
